Re: Breaking: all main events after UFC 133 will be 5 rounds
I like the move, I guess.
The upside is you'll see truer outcomes to determine who receives title shots or moves higher up the ladder.
The downside though is if they keep choosing some main eventers more on marketability than relevance of the fight, then those marketable fighters are going to take 25 instead of 15 minute beatings. Good examples of that would be Mark Hominick or Dan Hardy.
I think this is an impetus to finally slide marketable fighters further down the main card and give the top slot to the highest caliber match-up, which I'd be fully in favor of. Like at UFC Versus in Milwaukee they'd award the spot to Miller-Henderson instead of Hardy-Lytle. The former is the type of fight this change is intended for.

About time. There are some negatives with this (boring fights, extra wear and tear), but I think the positives outweigh them. Fights like Rampage/Machida and Rampage/Rashad definitely needed to be 5 rounds.

Nice.
Wonder if co-main events will be included.

Great move. Bernman brings up a good point though. It's going to occasionally be painful to watch a guy absorb 2 more rounds of getting beaten up, especially because a lot of these guys just won't quit.

Do you get a pay raise for those two extra main event rounds?

I could go either way on this. It will be good for some fights and bad for others. It also will mean less fights per PPV.
Flyweights on the other hand I am very excited about.

Undecided.
Wish this was implemented before so Machida could have ridden his 3rd rd momentum to beat Rampage.

I was wondering why took so long. I can't help but think of the late 5th round KO by a guy who has been down 4-0 on the cards. I think that is what makes MMA and boxing to a lesser degree damn exciting...You could get blown out and all it takes is one punch, one mistake, one takedown... Call the last two round champion rounds...

RE: Flyweights, who are the guys to look out for and where can we see them?
I don't usually bother with minor league MMA, but because there are no flyweight divisions in the major orgs, you could be seeing top 10 guys fight on cards that are otherwise full of nobodies.
I wonder how they will introduce them to the UFC. Could we actually see a tournament?

looking at the sherdog's 125 rankings, it seems that most of the fighters are in the Shooto organization. i wouldn't be surprised if all those guys came to the ufc soon. we all know that JMMA is in trouble.
would you guys have liked if dos santos vs carwin went 2 more rounds? that kind of scares me.

Yes and no, I thought it could have been stopped at end of rd 1, it was really close. JDS looked back at Herb Dean, Dean told him to keep going. At the beginning of rd 3, I was thinking I'd like to see 2 more rds. But Shane was pretty battered after rd 3, not sure it would have went past rd 4, had it been a 5 rd fight.

I actually don't like this decision. I know I'm going to get ripped for it but I think it will create a lot of bad fights while at the same time take away the only thing special about a title fight.
If it was me UFC fights would remain 3 rounds.

A bunch of 135-ers will drop to 125. Mighty Mouse, maybe Jorgensen.

I've always heard Benavidez' name come up in discussions about 125 as well.
But yeah, so far thats about the only chance I have of knowing who the 125ers are when that division starts.
