UFC Event Pick'em Pool (S4: UFC 157, 2/23)
I've been thinking for a while that this might be a fun thing to do on this board. Never could find a great time to try to start it, so I thought I'd throw it out there. Maybe we can get enough people on board for UFC 132, but if not, then the next one.
For every UFC event, we make our picks, have some kind of scoring system, and then have standings. I suggest only UFC events (possibly only numbered events) to keep things more inclusive/less random. I suggest the following scoring:
Every PPV event has at least 10 fights, so you pick 10 fights, ranked in order of how confident you are in the pick. The ranking will serve as a multiplier. We could also try picking the winner, method, and round, as further multipliers. Only problem I see with that, is that whenever you pick decisions, you will always get the round right as well.
ie/ 10. GSP over Shields (decision, 5) would be 10 x 3 = 30 pts, but only if you put it in your 10 spot. If you weren't so sure of the result, and put it 8, it would only be 24 pts.
Anyway, just an idea for something fun to do on this board. Post if interested and we can iron out the details (scoring, first event, deadlines, etc) later.

I'd be taking a shot in the dark on many of the undercard fights, but I'm down. I suggest keeping it simple, though. Round and method seems like a bit much.

Re: UFC Event Pick'em Pool
I know the ufc website has a fantasy system you can use and compare yourself to everyone else who does it. Its like winner, rd, method and each are scored separately.
Not sure if you can create your own group or whatever though.
edit: nvm, guess they deleted the system a few months back. That blows. Saw someone recommend going through mmaplayground.com on a forum, but I've never used it. Unless this was something we were just gonna do on the board.

Awesome lets rock it. Sounds like great fun.
Make it a sticky and away we go.
UFC132 prob 2 close to do it, but UFC133 onwards?
We doing just "normal" UFC's or include Versus/FN/TUF Finales/Fight for Troops?

I vote UFC 133 and onwards, and vote for all of them. ^

I'd be cool with doing every event, and scrapping round/method. I'd like to keep the weighting though, just to create a bit of strategy and point separation.

The way I'd like to do it is to do the whole card (or at least 10 fights) and rank them from 1-10 in terms of how confident you are in the outcome.
Most people would probably rank the main card fights higher, so they would be worth more points, but people would have the option to rank an undercard fight higher if they felt comfortable with it. I think that will allow for more separation, as on a lot of cards most people may pick about 80% of the same fighters.

Re: UFC Event Pick'em Pool
Bump.
UFC 133 is still a few weeks away, but let's iron out the details of how this is going to work. I have a few different ideas.
One would be ranking the fights from 1 pt to 10 pts, as I've outlined before. The other would be to make prelims 1 point, Spike TV prelims 2 pts, main card fights 3 pts, co main events 4 pts, and main events 5 pts. That could get a bit complicated and lead to a lot of people with similar scorecards, but some people might like it better.
Also, it seemed like most people thought picking winner, method, round would be a bit much, but let's just vote on it anyway.
So:
1-10 pt ranking
or
5/4/3/2/1
and
just the winner
or
winner, method, round

because apparently you want to get something going but are too busy to actually post something that would inspire people to bother

Right, because posting the card before we have settled on a scoring system is so much more productive.

Re: UFC Event Pick'em Pool (UFC 133 picks open)
Here are my picks, and the format I suggest using.
10 - Rashad Evans vs. Tito Ortiz
9 - Rory MacDonald vs. Mike Pyle
8 - Chad Mendes vs. Rani Yahya
7 - Brian Ebersole vs. Dennis Hallman
6 - Constantinos Philippou vs. Jorge Rivera
5 - Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Vitor Belfort
4 - Alexander Gustafsson vs. Matt Hamill
3 - Johny Hendricks vs. Mike Pierce
2 - Mike Brown vs. Nam Phan
1 - Paul Bradley vs. Rafael "Sapo" Natal
With 11 fights, and 10 slots, everyone gets to leave one fight off their picks. I figure this will create more separation, and just makes the numbers a little easier to deal with. The fight I'm not picking is:
Ivan Menjivar vs. Nick Pace
There's still plenty of time for everyone to get their picks in, but I'll be away this week (I'm sure I'll still pop in from time to time), so I just wanted to get the ball rolling.

^ You have to put them in order...I'm most confident in Rashad over Tito, so I ranked it 10, least confident in Natal over Bradley, so it's 1.

Re: UFC Event Pick'em Pool (make your UFC 133 picks!)
Personally I perfer picking, winner, round, method, but I'm good with whatever the consensus is. If we are doing it with this 10 point system, that's fine too.
Perhaps though, if you where do winner/round/method, you could assign more points to each category, thus allowing for more seperation. I.E. 3 pts for Winner, 2 points for round and 1 point for method or something of that ilk.
