UFC on FX 2 (3/3) - Kampmann v. Alves, Flyweight tournament

Post#1 » by Shaazzam » Thu Nov 24, 2011 3:29 pm

UFC welterweight contender Martin (The Hitman) Kampmann escaped with a win Saturday and it appears he already has a new opponent.

According to MMAweekly.com, Kampmann has been matched up against former No. 1 contender Thiago (Pitbull) Alves for a bout on March 3.

No location or other details have been announced yet, but it appears it will be the third UFC event on FOX.

So this whole thing with the 2-3 events per year is definitely a sham if we have 2 in the first 3 months of the ear. Right? Good.

Hopefully they have a full card per broadcast as well. Then we are def in business.

Great fight.

Would be something good to show the Fox audience, if it is in fact on a Fox card.

Defientely a good fight. Kampman's technique and accuracy against Alves pure power. Though early on at least, I am inclined to think that one of Thiago's big shots will land before Martin's accumulated damage has a chance to add up... Nonetheless, certainly an entertaining fight to bring to the mainstream.

Alves doesn't like being bullied. Kampmann won't have a size or strength advantage, but he has volume, a solid jab, and very underrated chin and that could puzzle Alves. Great fight.

Kampmann does have a good chin, but it certainly gets tested. I'm a big fan, but that jab will have to work extra hard to Alves from clobbering him.

I like both these guys, but I think i'll go Alves on this one. I don't think Alves will box with him. I think he'll try to bully him like Story did in the first round before he got a bit tired, reserved some energy and then got beat up and picked apart.

I like Alves to win...unfortunately. If Kampmann can be tagged and brought to a knee 1-3 times against Diego Sanchez, Alves will be able to push the pace and tag him imo. Kampmann needs to keep the distance here.

Ah, but Thiago's not a one punch KO artist. He's really bound into a tight MT stance (and muscle). He never gets loose enough to throw KOs.

They are both, in their own ways, point fighters.

I read rumblings about this one way back and I was stoked.

Both guys need to be aggressive in this fight, and I think it's a good style match-up.

Like sort of a Muay Thai vs Dutch Kickboxing thing, again.

Looking forward to this one, and it's free. :D

I think Alves wins with a TKO.

Joe silva impresses with this one.

Hard to pick but I've got Alves by UD.

This is actually going to be UFC on FX 2 by the looks of things, from Sydney, Australia.

It will feature the Alves vs. Kampmann fight, and the first round of the flyweight tournament (Benavidez vs. **** and Johnson vs. McCall).

Bumped. This one fell under the radar, but it's a solid card, top to bottom. Very excited for the flyweights.

I have to take Alves here.

I always like Kampmann and still feel like he got robbed against Sanchez and Shields, but if Alves can get that dirty muay thai going, I have to think he is the more dominant fighter. Kampmann has a to of heart and a good striker in his own right, so should be a god fight.

Preliminary card
Heavyweight bout: Oli Thompson vs. Shawn Jordan[1]
[edit]Preliminary card (Fuel TV)
Featherweight bout: Mackens Semerzier vs. Daniel Pineda[1]
Welterweight bout: TJ Waldburger vs. Jake Hecht[1]
Middleweight bout: Kyle Noke vs. Andrew Craig[1]
Featherweight bout: Cole Miller vs. Steven Siler[1]
Light Heavyweight bout: Anthony Perosh vs. Nick Penner[1]
Light Heavyweight bout: James Te Huna vs. Aaron Rosa[1]
[edit]Main card
Middleweight bout: Court McGee vs. Constantinos Philippou[1]
Flyweight bout: Demetrious Johnson vs. Ian McCall[1]
Flyweight bout: Joseph Benavidez vs. Yasuhiro Urushitani[1]
Welterweight bout: Thiago Alves vs. Martin Kampmann[1]

Flyweight tourny is a neat idea. I have been really warming up to the smaller weight classes in the last year, I am seeing what others were once beforee.

And Constantine has those wierd boxing glove tattoos. Whenever he fight, I always spend half the time looking at them, I don't know why. lol

And I like Cole Miller a lot. I hope he wins and we can see him against some better competition.

Ewwww, Benavidez looks gross. 10 pounds is like 8.8 percent of his body...and you see it.

Haha, what if the cut kills him and he loses to Uru$hitani? I heard on sherdog roundtable that he is a 14 to 1 underdog in some places. I've never seen a line like that in mma. Would that be like the biggest upset in history odds wise for mma? Serious question.

Why is the Alves/Kampmann fight 3 rds ? I thought all main events are now 5 rds. Seems like Fuel and FX main events are 3 rds. Watch this be like Ellenberger/Sanchez, where we were all like, I want to see rd 4 and rd 5.

It totally could be a downer to the event. Alves has had a bunch of fights that really got blue-balled cos of three rounds.

I'd imagine they didn't have the time to give these guys notice on 5 rounds, since Dana resolidified that policy only a couple weeks back.
