UFC on Fuel 2: 4/14, SWE, T. Silva vs. Gustafsson

http://mmajunkie.com/event/888/ufc-on-f ... sweden.mma

"Rumoured" (MMA Junkie's rumours are usually confirmed fights that just haven't been officially announced yet) fights include:

DaMarques Johnson vs. John Maguire
Francis Carmont vs. Magnus Cedenblad
Papy Abedi vs. James Head

Gotta think Gustafsson will be on this card. Timing is right, and he's publicly said he wants to fight there. He's kind of at the point where he has to fight top 15ish guys until he loses though. Possible opponents? I'm thinking Lil Nog. Other possibilities could be Forrest Griffin, Rich Franklin (are they both healthy?), maybe Thiago Silva? Stephan Bonnar could be a possibility, seeing as this still is an event on Fuel and they may not want to bring out the big guns.

I'd expect Akira from TUF to get a fight as well.

Article mentions David Bielkheden and Per Eklund as possibilities, but I doubt they go out of their way to find fights for those guys. Maybe they come in as underdogs against guys they want to get wins.

Kinda cool to see them bring smaller shows to other countries. The people in Sweden may not be all that stoked about the lineup, but it takes some pressure off trying to build a PPV card for every country they want to debut in. Now they can do a smaller venue, more affordable ticket prices, etc.

I heard somewhere that Gustafsson wants Shogun. Not sure if he's ready for that much of a step up in competition.

:o

I wish he converted earlier, could have been a force. He's still 5-0 as a pro though.

Maybe, but this kid is good.

I think he has a good chance in a fight like this.

Very tough fight, but good fighters want big jumps and shine.

Look at Bones, who some say Gustaffson may challenge in the future, we'll see.

Thiago Silva is coming back and people have been talking about him in this slot as well.

Franklin is out until late summer, but Griffin should be ready to start training any time now.

I like it. Lil Nog wanted someone who wasn't a wrestler and he got it. Lil Nog is a step-up from Vlady yet not one of the elites. But who is out there for Shogun? I don't think Machida 3 makes sense. Maybe Thiago Silva who is back. I can think of three great fights from SF with Feijo, Mo, or Mouasi.

Franklin is coming off shoulder surgery and isn't going to fight until later this summer. I kinda hope Vera doesn't get that fight because Thiago Silva vs Shogun is kinda interesting.

This is actually looking like a pretty deep free card from top to bottom. I'm especially looking forward to seeing Siyar's UFC debut and how Gustafsson fares against Antonio "Gatekeeper" Nogueira.

ugh I thought Lil Nog vs Gustafsson was a much more intriguing matchup. But at least now I can get behind the Swedish guy 100%.
