Don't think for a moment this one won't be personal.

Thiago Silva (14-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) and Brandon Vera (12-5 MMA, 8-5 UFC), who first met in a UFC 125 bout that was eventually ruled a "no contest," will fight again on May 15 in Fairfax, Va.

Silva fought fellow light heavyweight Vera and earned a unanimous-decision win at UFC 125 in January. However, the 28-year-old subsequently was scratched from a planned UFC 130 bout with Quinton "Rampage" Jackson when UFC 125 drug-testing results were released.

This past March, Silva was served with a formal NSAC complaint after two separate urinalysis samples revealed a substance that was "inconsistent with human urine," which indicated that he "submitted an adulterated and/or substituted specimen for testing for the urinalysis." Silva's first test was flagged, which prompted further testing by the Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory, which is accredited by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Silva then admitted to taking a prescription steroid, delivered by a doctor via epidural, on two separate occasions prior to UFC 125.

Silva was fined (and later paid) $13,750 of his $55,000 "show" purse and $20,000 of his $55,000 "win" purse for a total of $33,750.

Meanwhile, Vera was released from the UFC following the loss to Silva but was brought back when the ruling was made. Vera has since registered a win in the octagon, a UFC 137 decision over Eliot Marshall, but has done little to hide his contempt for the man he openly refers to as a "juice monkey."

Not what I was hoping for for Thiago Silva's comeback fight, but I guess it lets them close the book on this one way or the other. Probably the best use for Brandon Vera too, since nobody would buy him in a main event otherwise.

A mid-level fighter who cheats vs. lower-level a fighter who was cut and brought back on a technicality. I can hardly contain my excitement. But I guess it's the right fight for the two of them. I really wanted to see Rampage stomp Silva.

UGH

Why? Vera *barely* got by Elliot Marshall.

My guess is that they wouldn't mind cutting Vera again, and at least this way they get something useful out of it.

What if Vera wins? What of Thiago then?

I hope Fox/UFC doesn't actually showcase this fight in the broadcast. Hopefully its prelims.

I am a Silva fan and am stoked for this one.

Am I the only one?

Thiago almost beat Rashad back int he day, he's legit.

Vera almost beat Randy as well back when.

I'll be tuning in.

I'm hoping the past year was a wake-up call to both fighters and come out wanting to prove the haters wrong. This is a big fight for both of these guys' futures. Vera will probably be cut by the time the main event starts if he loses. Thiago could be in a dangerous spot if he loses as well.

That being said, no Gold Chain, you aren't the only one excited for this fight.

I knew Brandon would get a rematch. I don't think he will win it though.

Thiago DID beat Rashad if damage is even close to a criteria in mma. That was the worst display on LnP I have ever seen, and I've seen Jon Fitch fight.

I'm assuming it's going to be the main event actually.

Were almost 3.5 months out and he is scratched due to injury? Must be pretty bad.

Vera just dodged a serious ass-whoopin

If anything, I think Silva would have KO'd Vera this time around. Vera did NOT look impressive against Eliot Marshall and Marshall is no Silva. I see Vera as a mid-level guy and Silva as a top ten guy.

If a Silva who was so roided up that he had to submit dog urine to the sac couldn't finish a Vera coming off a broken orbital to Jones, what makes you think a non roided up Silva would finish him now?

Vera is better on the feet, and I'm skeptical that a Silva who was planning to drop to mw (after he had to stop his roids??) could hold him down like he did the first time around.

Vera hasn't looked good in a while. Like, years. I think he's done. That Marshall decision could have easily gone the other way and he's not exactly a world beater.

Silva is a monster and he usually wins by KO/TKO. He's gotten caught (Evans/Machida), but he's also terrorized anyone below the top tier of the division.

Vera may surprise me, but I don't see this one going any differently, even without the juice.
