Re: [POLL] You pick the winner of Diaz vs Condit
48-47 Carlos Condit.
I scored the first 2 rounds for Diaz, but the body punches and leg kicks slowed Diaz down and made him and easier target to find for Condit. Condit won rounds 3 and 4 for sure. The big argument comes in the 5th. I scored it for Condit because he controlled the round until that half takedown Diaz did. Had Diaz done more damage on the ground in the last 30 seconds, he could have stolen the fight on my card. But, he didn't...so he didn't.

Re: [POLL] You pick the winner of Diaz vs Condit
I've gone back and forth.
Watching it live, I had rounds 1 and 2 for Diaz, 3 and 4 slightly for Condit, and 5 for Diaz. So that's who I'm going to vote for, because that would have been the result if I were one of the judges.
However, I'd say it felt like a Condit win or a draw, looking at the fight as a whole.
I'd probably feel best about this scorecard, even though I know it's kind of a cop out:
10-10
10-9 Diaz
10-9 Condit
10-9 Condit
10-9 Diaz
48-48 draw

Re: [POLL] You pick the winner of Diaz vs Condit
I'm kind of shocked that people (not picking on CPT here) see Diaz winning rounds 1 and 2 handily, but Condit winning rounds 3 and 4 slightly. To me it is the exact opposite. I had Diaz winning the first 2 rounds, but pretty slightly in somewhat of pick um rounds. I think Condit pretty much dominated rounds 3 and 4, and find it somewhat surprising that smart MMA fans see those as questionable rounds for Condit.
I think rounds 1 and 5 were really close. Round 2 went to Diaz somewhat convincingly. And 3 and 4 went to Condit convincingly.

Re: [POLL] You pick the winner of Diaz vs Condit
fight metric has this a draw for condit. I thought a 48/47 decision for either guy was appropriate. 49-46 is ridiculous for condit though.
edit. fightmetric has it 48/47 for condit. nvm

Re: [POLL] You pick the winner of Diaz vs Condit
Did feel like Condit took over the fight mid-way through round 3, but if Diaz won 1 & 2 (which he did, IMO) and 5 (w/ takedown) then the fight should have gone to Diaz 48-47.
WTF @ TWO judges having it 49-46 Condit..?

Re: [POLL] You pick the winner of Diaz vs Condit
I'll have to re-watch the fight I guess... My thoughts on having seen it once, Diaz won rounds 1 and 5. Condit won 2-3-4. 48-47 Condit.

I had Diaz winning 48-47, but I'm totally fine with Condit 48-47. It's the two 49-46 Condit scores that make me shake my head. It's Penn/Edgar all over again.

Re: [POLL] You pick the winner of Diaz vs Condit
It's irrelevant whether Diaz slightly or convincingly won the first two rounds and whether Condit slightly or convincingly won the 3rd and 4th. They were all 10-9 rounds, so it really comes down to who you had winning the final round. I gave the edge to Diaz.

Re: [POLL] You pick the winner of Diaz vs Condit
Thanks for making the poll, I was going to do it but got tired and fell asleep. I said in the other thread I had rounds 2,3,4 for Condit, but I think it was actually rounds 1,3,4.
There are enough people who agree on the outcome (e.g., Condit winning) but disagree on which rounds he won that I actually think this might warrant a rematch.
I may hold off on voting in this poll until I can re-watch the fight.

Re: [POLL] You pick the winner of Diaz vs Condit
I had Diaz up easily after rounds one and two. He pursued and damaged his opponent. Rounds three and four saw Condit counter more effectively to score points as he got into a rhythm and loosened up. Diaz clinched round five with the only takedown of the fight and some beautiful jitz, forcing Condit to fight off subs.
Diaz appeared to think that taking Condit down was merely an exclamation point on a clear win and I agree with him. It's Diaz all night under PRIDE rules. Under the ten point must system, it's Diaz 48-47.

Re: [POLL] You pick the winner of Diaz vs Condit
48-47 Condit, don't recall how I scored it by round, but the UD was exactly what I was expecting. He outstruck Diaz, landed more strikes, took less damage. WGAF about a takedown at the tail end of a fight... Cheap-ass point fighting (and then relying on it for a decision!) is something I never thought I'd see from Diaz. THAT is proof that he was a beaten man.

It's not like Diaz took him down and just held on. He was legitimately trying to end the fight. If anyone was point fighting it was Condit.

This. Diaz was never in danger of being finished. Condit was moving backward and countering here and there. That wasn't Machida-esque at all. He seemed more like he was fighting not to lose. If he were fighting a defending champion, that fight would have in no way warranted a new champion. I'm fine with him getting the decision solely because neither man was defending the belt.

You don't take down a guy with 1 minute remaining because you want to finish the fight. You do it out of desparation. You're not going to sub Condit with one minute left in a title fight. He's too good for that.

Condit was never in danger of being finished either, by that logic. He outstruck him and was faster and Condit beat him to the punch several times with leg and body kicks. Condit wasn't attacking with kicks? He slowed Nick down considerably with them. It didn't look impressive because he wasn't doing anything with his hands, except on retreat. But it was an effective style as evidenced by the stats. He countered with his hands, attacked with his feet and he landed more strikes.

Do you have a link with the stats?
I did not watch the fight but would like to see what the numbers look like.

I am having a hard time understanding the people who are calling out Condit after reading those stats.

Sure he went for the takedown to give him the advantage in the round, but that's why people do anything in a fight. It was a close fight with neither guy getting anywhere on the feet, so he made the decision to go for the win instead of just trading out the last couple of minutes and hoping for the best. That's not desperate, that's smart. He would have probably pulled it off against most guys.
I don't get how taking someone's back and attacking with submissions is "cheap-ass point fighting" but retreating with leg kicks is a brilliant strategy.
