Sources close to the deal just now confirmed with The Underground that Carlos Condit has accepted a rematch with Nick Diaz for the interim welterweight title.

Condit said 'Yes, I accept the rematch' and will be in Las Vegas on Thursday to finalize the deal with the UFC.

This past Saturday, Diaz and Condit fought to a five round decision, a decision that went in the favor of Condit. Diaz, along with many fans, fighters, and media had thought he had done enough to win a decision, but all three judges scored the bout for Condit.

At the post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White said there was a possibility a rematch could be made, but it seemed unlikely as Diaz had said post-bout that he was retiring from fighting and earlier today Condit's camp said they were not interested in a rematch.

It's unclear at this time as to when the rematch will take place, but it looks like the fans got what they asked for.

Man condit must have been paid ALOT under the table. His team at Jackson's were very stern in saying they would not agree a rematch earlier this week

Well, ignoring that Cesar Gracie tweet that could ruin everything, I'm happy they agreed to this (if they did). I didn't think it would happen, but this is pretty much the only fight for Condit before GSP. You wouldn't want him potentially losing to anyone else.

Ridiculous. Not that I don't want to see them fight again, but this is absolutely ridiculous. Might as well have them coach TUF or something and tie up the division even more.

So what would you have them do with Carlos? Sit until GSP is ready? Why? I say have him fight if he wants to fight, be it against Nick or whoever. Thing is, if it's not Nick and Carlos doesn't want to wait until Oct-Nov for GSP then who do you put in there? I'm kind of iffy on the winner of Diego/Ellenberger just because I don't believe Diego deserves a shot if he wins. He's probably another big win away from getting there though. Jake though, I believe he could pull out a title shot if he wins next week which would make it six straight.

However, I still say the smart thing to do is give the shot to Nick. It gives the whole division that much more time to separate the contenders from the pretenders over the next year or so while this whole GSP/Condit/Diaz picture is cleared up.

This is better than sitting Condit for several months or possibly losing two challengers ready for the primetime with GSP.

He should sit until GSP is ready because he's the interim champion. There are many, many, many fights for Condit if he wants to take something in June/July. Why can't he fight the winner of Diego/Jake and let Diaz fight the loser?

Oh right, everyone in the industry expected Diaz to win (18-6 in favour of Diaz on Sherdog's pick 'em before the fight). That's the only reason you're seeing this fight: no one wants Condit as a champion, so they'll give it another shot to put the "right" guy on top. He's really disliked in the industry for some reason.

Of course, as a fan of the sport, I'd love to see a rematch, but only because it was close, not because I think Diaz won. Many people (not saying that's anyone here) can't make the distinction, it's Diaz won the fight, so he should get a rematch to get an official win. I'm not complaining because the fight and the build up to the fight will be great, I just think it's BS and I'd rather see two guys in their prime fight guys they haven't juuuust fought.

It's not that I expected Diaz to win (which I did, but I scored the fight for Condit to be honest), it's just that in a decision that close with a title on the line I think a rematch should be awarded. If Shogun could get an immediate rematch, I think Nick has a case here.

As a rule of thumb, it should be expected that most title fights will be close, often controversial decisions (assuming the guys are similarly skilled, like Condit/Diaz).

I guess I don't like immediate rematches. I hated Penn getting one against Edgar and I didn't like Rua getting one against Machida. It begs the question, why didn't Rampage get one against Forrest? You're basically eating up nearly a year of a fighter's prime to prove what, exactly? Diaz demolishing Sanchez or Condit beating Ellenberger means much more than another close decision.

To me, the instant rematch seems like trying to get the more marketable or popular fighter over the top. I don't think the same expectation of a rematch would exist if Diaz won. Obviously, I can't prove it, but I feel there is a clear preference for Diaz over Condit within the industry and among fans.

No one wants to see a GSP/Condit fight where we have to see and hear about how Condit played it safe all the way to the paper title.

In the past few years, we've had Lutter, Serra, Leites, Maia, Couture, Hardy, Koscheck, Lesnar, and Cote fight for titles while one could easily argue that none of these guys were in a traditional title picture. It's going to happen again because of injuries and hype trains, but at the very least, at least Condit has a win over a top five guy. He's earned a title shot given the relative shallowness of the division without GSP. Believe me, I'd love to have seen a dominant performance from either fighter, but that's not going to happen with regularity at the upper echelons of any division.

Good point. This would not only render the rematch useless, it would discredit two possible contenders. In reality, Diaz could get a win over the Sanchez/Ellenberger loser and find himself back in the discussion. To me, that's a route that makes more sense.
