Hell yeah! My parents are taking me to Vegas that weekend as a graduation present and they said we'd go to a UFC event if they have one. Wow, the world heavyweight championship and it should be a great fight. I've got JDS but wouldn't be too surprised if Reem won. Either way, the fight should end with a KO.

Overeem by KO.

When was the last time someone defended the HW belt? Everyone gets pronounced as unbeatable the moment they win it, only to pass that title (and pronouncement) to the very next opponent.

That is crazy good luck. Hope you have a great time and get to see JDS knock out Overeem.

Can't wait for this.

I've got JDS, but either way I just hope it lasts long enough to produce a good fight.

It's sorta a silly fight. I'd bet neither guy, if they fought 10 times, would win more than 6. It'll be someone's turn to win on fight night, but the tiniest little circumstance maybe not having anything to do with skill - just with chance positioning - could decide which.

In boxing, you don't really have that too often. Even with the HWs. If two guys show up at a particular level of preparedness, one is probably gonna win that fight 9+ times out of 10.

K-1 is closer to MMA.

Chance plays a role in all combat sports (and sports in general) but skill and ability are obviously the largest determining factors. I believe that Poirier would have beaten Holloway 9+ times out of 10... just like Vitali would beat Chisora 9+ times out of ten.

Anyways, I think it's actually a pretty compelling fight. Going into the Lesnar fight, one of those two guys was going to get exposed. For all of his experience, Allistar hasn't exactly fought a who's who of MMA since his PRIDE days...and he didn't do too well against the top guys back then. Still, I don't know how much that Lesnar fight can really tell us about Allistar, especially considering how terrible Brock looked. Allistar didn't look like a world beater against Werdum in his fight before that. Prior to that he KO's Duffee (meh) and Rodgers (incredibly overrated at that time).

It's kind of strange that it's going to happen in a HW title fight, but I think that JDS will finally show us just how good Allistar is. We know he's a top level martial artist (kickboxing and even grappling), but just how good is he as a mixed martial artist? How much has he improved since his PRIDE days?

We know what we're going to get with Junior (amazing hands with the TD defense and jitz to keep the fight standing), and we know that Reem's a great technical striker, but in a strange way this is a HUGE step up for THIS Allistar.

Anyways, I'd love to see Overeem come out show us all that he's really, really for real, but the safe money's got to be on JDS.

Overeem is going to take one of those JDS bombs and wilt.

The Reem is losing this fight, book it.

I think they will match Mir/Cain winner vs winner of this one.

Overeem won the damn K-1 GP, JDS's uppercut is not the most vicious strike he'll ever see. Semmy Schilt's front kick, Badr Hari's overhand right, Bonjasky's flying knees, Saki's spin kicks, etc. JDS has strong punches, don't get me wrong, but nothing that AO's going to wilt at.

Totally. Overeem is one of the best heavyweights on the planet, and the most decorated for sure.

Dos Santos has huge power, great boxing, and I think a bit of an underrated ground game.

He can also go to war.
I think one of the biggest questions I always have about Overeem is how he is gonna to handle getting blasted a few times in the chops. In the past, he seems to crumble a tad mentally.

CBR, I agree, but this is NOT K-1. In the UfC Dos Santos is unbeaten and has beat Werdum (KO), Carwin, Nelson, Yvel, Gonzaga and Cain to name a few.

In MMA, Overeem has beaten Lesnar (Crow eaten by me), Werdum (Decision), Duffee, Rodgers and other guys as he moved along. (Not a shopping list of A-fighters MMA fighters either.)

I just don't see the knees being that big of a big deal, as Dos Santos is going to be ready to throw big shots when Overeem tries to come into range.

Either way, going to be a great fight, and definitely a big test for both guys.

What do I know, but that's what I think.

Then again, it seems Overeem has some new unorthodox training techniques.

Oh Holland, you crazy. 8-)

I think JDS has a speed advantage, and that's why I'm picking him in this fight.

Wouldn't be shocked if it doesn't play out that way though. Are there odds on this fight yet?

This is a coin flip fight imo. JDS speed and accuracy combined with Overeem's suspect chin or Overeem's power and knees. Pick one.

I have to go with JDS. Both guys have solid technical striking and tremendous power, but the difference is we've seen Overeem stopped several times. I've never seen JDS in trouble. It's hard to say a guy will lose for reasons that he has never struggled with before.

Latest I see is -160 Dos Santos...I think it may have been -170 this morning so money has been coming on Reem. I'd feel good about laying some down on JDS if the line closes a bit more.

Would it be alright if I made a bettin thread? Don't want to break any rules but I like discussing the odds as they're posted. Looks like money has been coming in on Bendo. Jones as well...he's up to a 6:1 favorite again.

There is 1 already, though it is buried down on the third page. Perhaps that thread should be stickied?? In any event, here it is if you'd like to revive it.

Overeem's had 4x the fights!!! Like, 3 distinct careers.

Yeah, I'm hoping more money comes in on Overeem, because I'd kind of like to make a bet on JDS. That being said, I never feel great about betting on HW fights, because that division has the most "anything can happen" potential.

As for a betting thread, I prefer just discussing odds/bets for an event in the event thread itself. I think even non bettors would find it interesting, as long as they understand the odds. Just adds another wrinkle to the discussion, even if you aren't going to bet.

So? The point is we know Overeem is susceptible to strikes.

I don't follow K1 much, but don't the larger gloves mask Overeem's chin and absorb blows?
