Not a surprise.

I wonder who they match him up with?

I'd looooooove to see them match him up with Brian Stann. That fight would be dynamite. Boetsch makes some sense as well.

Its a shame. I hate watching homegrown talent leave but at the same time now we get to see Lombard in against the best. I wonder if his judo background is going to allow him to avoid getting wrestle f*cked.

It will. If anything he's going to be the one doing the wrestle-f*cking and submitting. That's how a lot of his fights play out. Who I think he doesn't match up well are technical strikers who can keep distance and have solid TDD, i.e.: Andy, Belfort, Bisping, etc.

BTW, Rebney just announced BFC won't be matching. Lombard is officially under contract w/ the UFC.

He told my brother when the UFC were down here that they've offered him a deal that includes a title shot if he wins his first fight, like the one Shields got. That was a couple of months ago but I'd assume its still the case.

So if Shields got a fight vs ultimate gatekeeper Kampmann, I wonder who Lombard will get a fight against? Munoz?

Brian Stann makes too much sense not to happen.

True, that's what they did with the last smaller promotion MW champion they brought in...

It does make sense. That's a legit co-headliner, major visibility. Not Che Mills-big, but up there.

Lombard/Bisping. I know Bisping's got a fight on the way though.

Lombard/Stann makes the most sense.

It's a good matchup, and Stann fought recently, so he's available around the time Lombard will be.

Winner would be a credible challenger or at least worthy of being in a title eliminator.

^^ this.

Stann is gaining momentum and popularity, Lombard has the "other organisation champion" credibility, so at the very least you could see them swinging for the #1 or a mini-tournament-esque eliminator.

Yo Hektor, say word?
"I want to be UFC middleweight champion, and I want to fight Anderson Silva to do it," Lombard stated. "I have such respect for him as a fighter. It would be an honor and a dream come true to test my skills against his.

Instant title shot? Hmm. When he beats Sonnen again, hard to re-sell Vitor or any previous opponent, Stann would get mirked, maybe the UFC is on to something with that, if that's going to hold true.

I think Stann is the right choice for HL, I agree with you guys.

Boxing & Mixed Martial Arts Board match-making!

This will not be Igor vs Wanderlei anti-climax either, IDT.

Lombard has been a classless turd in the past, a poor winner and all. Interesting he's going up against such a sportsman.

Don't try to pretend like you don't hate Stann, he's on his way to your house right now, and he's bringing his classiness and his straight punches with him. :D
