Aside from the actual act being idiotic, he wouldn't look like such a hypocrite if the dude didn't pride himself on having the good guy image.. There's a reason a handful of his peers and people in the know have called him fake..

That's the thing, I've known a handful of people who have talked to Zahabi, GSP etc. Off the record I've heard second hand many times that people question Jon's commitment to the sport. It isn't surprising given his age and his ascension up the stardom ladder per say, but even the most talented people always reach a point in there life where they can't just ride talent alone. Jon at some point, is going to have look himself in the mirror and really grow up inside and out of the cage.

Agreed, although I'm one of the guys who likes to call out Jones for his persona, it would take an insanely disciplined individual for someone to be truly matured in Jon's position. I'm not talking about the DUI, which is shameful in any situation, but in regards to his ego and perceived cockiness.. He's a 24 year old multi-millionaire who has yet to be remotely challenged in his professional career. Of course he's going to think he's god's gift to Earth (literally).. All that said, it's still not an excuse for his fakeness or the DUI obviously.

I like that he's being exposed as a big ol' hypocrite by risking the lives of others because he likes mimosas too much. All those kids he had locked up for weed possession back in school are grinning now. Goddamn hypocrite. I hate people like that.

This was his destiny imo.

Wasn't Budweiser already annoyed with their sponsorship of the UFC?

I really hate how other sports are so Goddammed PC. I like how the UFC lets people be themselves and I would hate to see Dana White in a suit all the time coming up with PC answers to every question.

Jon Jones lost himself a ton of money. There was probably a clause in his Budweiser contract stating that he wouldn't get a DWI. Other companies will be weary to hire Jones as a spokesperson and the deals he'll get now will be for less money. It's a shame because Jones had a great opportunity to become the first UFC fighter to bring the UFC into the mainstream and be in a ton of commercials. He's the son of a preacher who caught a mugger hours before becoming the youngest UFC champion ever. He's dynamic and unpredictable and after cleaning out the LHW division he'd move up to HW for a superfight that might have been on Fox.

If there's a parallel universe where Jon Jones never got a DUI, he'd retire a much richer man, with the UFC being much more mainstream.

He's probably just lashing out as a defense mechanism here. Do you know how humiliated he has to be?

He literally quoted that he wouldn't be the guy to get a DUI then he goes and does it like a complete idiot. He was supposed to be the squeaky clean posterboy, that's gone now. His opponents say he's fake, Rashad kept rambling how fake and disingenuous he is, all that is validated now. Dude snitches on pot smokers then totals a car in a DUI? Yea, he has to be devastatingly humiliated.

Right, sort of the perfect situation to show some, you know.. humility

I have strong feelings about driving under the influence and Jones has made himself an easy target with his comments, but keep in mind tons of genuinely good people in a moment of weakness have gotten DUIs. He needs to count his blessings that no one was hurt and learn from this.

How you react to a bad situation can turn it into a net positive. If Jones owns his mistakes, speaks out on the dangers of drunk driving, and keeps winning this won't make a dent in his career or legacy. Happens all the time in sports.

I'm a Jon Jones fan, but he sold himself as this great guy who never does anything wrong, so now he has to take his medicine here.

In the end, it will blow over and be forgotten. But for now, he has to be a punching bag for a bit.

i'm not a fan of Jones but this is an awful situation and of course things are complicated. but despite that you can understand why he feels the way he does. whether he is 'fake' or not he wants to be perceived in a certain positive light and this just throws that out the drain and fuels his critics. he must feel awful and he will have to make amends for it and he knows it. maybe his comments weren't the best but people don't want to hear someone complain even to the smallest or margins with a DUI. i just don't think this will be something we will remember in 5 years if he does the right things. heck kobe raped a woman and his image is sparkling clean now and has been for many years.
