Didn't see this posted but Penn accepted Macdonald's challenge. So you guys think this fight can headline a PPV?

Is this official yet?

And, yes, that can be a headliner.

Top Canadian fighter vs all-time legend. (And BJ has a decent record with PPV)

Not that I buy them anyway, but MacDonald vs. Penn wouldn't inspire me to buy a PPV.

Co-main event at best.

Co-main event at best, yeah. We'll probably get the Edgar/Bendo trilogy as the main event.

IF it was BJ /Rory and Ben/Frankie, I'd buy that in a hot second!

Yea, there is literally no way that Ben/Frankie could not be exciting.

I thought Ben had the ability to randomly finish quickly with a guillotine but Frankie kind of dispelled that notion in the last fight, sitting in Ben's guillotine for awhile unaffected.

Alsom how smart of Rory was this? I wonder if it was his idea.

The thought after the Kampmann fight was that Rory was the one kind of left out of the fold here. 3 possible contenders for GSP, other top WWs coming off of losses, who could Rory fight in the top 10 (which he deserved)?

Call out BJ Penn. A true LW, who he can grind down in the opening rounds and beat him up bad when WW BJ predictably gasses. Huge name, win over him would be huge for Rory.

I think Showdown Joe threw it out there on Twitter to gauge responses, it got confused for an actual rumour, and the fighters responded.

+1, I'm planning on going to the next Toronto event and this wouldn't entice me as the headliner. Co-main event, sure. Toronto needs a title fight or a super fight every time.

He's not even the top Canadian fighter within his division ;)

And being Canadian won't help with the PPV buys, which is where the money is.
They could put Nate Diaz vs a snow shoe and it would still sell out. The question is can Rory sell a PPV yet...that i'm not sure.

Context, Headliner.

Top Canadian fighter would pertain to a group of Canadian fighters at the top of the heap.

If I had written "The" before the statement, yes, it would make no sense,
as Georges is 1a, b, c, d, and e at this point.

Top 5 Canucks in the UFC?
1) GSP 2) Rory 3 Hominick 4) Bocek 5)Stout That sound right?
(I feel like I'm missing someone.....)

I'd put Claude Patrick in the top five, taking out Stout. Bocek's 3rd for me, Hominick's slid to 4th.

Agreed for the most part, although I also think it's a co-main event at worst. There's no other place to put it on the card when you have an up and coming star who has already been in a co-main on a #'ed card before and a legend who is a little passed his prime but still a formidable fighter.

We'll probably get the Edgar/Bendo trilogy as the main event.

That's already been booked for UFC 150.

Another possibility is Condit decides he can't wait anymore for Georges and tries to avenge his loss against Kampmann with the interim belt on the line, which he recently said is on his mind.

Is Pettis-Diaz big enough to headline? Ultimately Dana would say Diaz can't wait for his title shot anymore if he really needed him to headline a card. And Pettis has a good fan base in Canada. He regularly holds seminars there.

Machida-Evans rematch is a fight without imminent title implications but intrigue that they could make.

Or they could have JDS-Cain rematch each other already. Afterall, each took nary a scratch in their last fights, and they'd have a 4 month respite.

I was being jokey, referring to the inevitable third Bendo/Edgar fight.

I think Cain broke his hand on Bigfoot's big dome.

Ivan Menjivar, T.J. Grant, Mark Bocek, Claude Patrick > Hominick

Speaking of Grant and Bocek, that would be a great fight for this event too. They are two evenly matched fighters with similar styles. That usually yields an entertaining match.

Ah, I see. I overlooked the factually inaccurate trilogy aspect of it. Well, if you were being jokey, you should have projected it as the main event for September 22nd, 2013.

I always forget that possibility when thinking about injuries stemming from a one-sided beating. Well, then they can put together one of the other suggestions.

What about Bones/Hendo as the main event? Any chance it gets pushed back a few weeks?

Hominick may be losing a bit lately, but as far as raw skill and talent, he's top 3 for me.
If he fought smarter, he'd win more. He should've killed Yagin.

The stories of him cleaning out gyms in Ontario when he was younger are quite impressive.
