To be a fly on the wall for this event... the gambling is going to be ridiculous, whales all over the place. Why does Macau have to cost like four grand to get to?

Defeated by Demian Maia at UFC 148, when he suffered a fracture in a cartilage, Dong Yung Kim back to the octagon in November. The SPORTV.COM found with sources close to the Korean Ultimate face another Brazilian, Paulo Thiago at UFC China, Nov. 10, to be held in Macau.

I hope you're using enough of your time off to travel around Asia. If you end up coming back here, you might not get another opportunity. If you go, take pictures of Japanese businessmen losing their shirts.

I feel like I've mentioned this before, but every time I look at this poster I'm like, "oh they must have rematched Maia with Kim because of the rib injury...no, wait, that's not Demian? Wtf!"

i feel like this event is more of introduction fights for the 2 new korean fighters. the main event or the rest do not really interest me.
kyungho kang is suppposed to be a big bantam weight who has excellent finishing abilities. he is fighting leeroy caceres. this should an exciting grappling match.
hyungyu lim is a huge ww who makes other ww fighters look like midgets. 6'2" with 82" reach (jon jones and struve are the longest at 84.5"), and his walking weight is 200 lbs. a lot of hype about this guy.
very excited about this event.

Never heard of that other Korean dude, though I've apparently seen him fight at an M-1 show a few years ago. Wouldn't get too excited about him, though an 82" reach is intriguing at any weight class, never mind WW.

Kyungho Kang I've seen a handful of times, and while he looked good against the competition he faced, he didn't scream "future UFC fighter" like Dong-hyun Kim or even Korean Zombie. He's got good size and pretty decent athleticism, and seemed to be a good grappler, but I sometimes worry about guys who rack up submission wins in minor promotions, as the guys they are fighting just might be awful/have no submission training to speak of.

Even though it seems to be a big Asian fighter showcase, I actually like a lot of the matchups on this card.

And as mentioned, that is one sweet ass poster.

I thought most roots-level MMA in Korea was based around jiu-jitsu? Is that true, or is it more strikers?

There is a lot of jiu-jitsu, but I feel like that's a fairly recent phenomenon. Most guys come from a TKD base, since almost everyone takes it as a kid, and most guys who are professional fighters probably continued through adulthood.

There's also a decent amount of judo, and some boxing, but I would say, as a rule, the average semi-pro Korean fighter is probably a striker, and the ones who excel are the ones who become good at grappling.

I'm not super plugged in to the scene here or anything though, that just seems to be what I've noticed from the handful events that I make it out to every year. That and an epidemic of ball shots. There's honestly about 6-10 every event, with one fight usually getting stopped because of them.

TKD and Judo have been more of the popular martial arts in the "asia's" however parts of jitz has been incorporated into those arts. Jitz before UFC was in the karate category. now its really mainstream and almost idolized

btw, lim's reach is 79, not 82. they messed up the conversion.
79 is still long as hell tho.
