It's strange to have free cards better than $60 cards, but I guess this was the UFC can try to become mainstream through FOX and they figure that hardcore will still buy the PPVs. I've never bought a PPV, but I can understand how frustrated a hardcore fan might be with paying for fights that pale in comparison to free frights.
JDS-Cain was to make a big splash in the first one, but other than that, this is the best one by far.
I'm pretty sure Diaz-Condit was PPV, and Henderson vs. Diaz for the LW title is a much better main event than Rashad vs. Davis (Rashad is a star, but I don't think anyone was super stoked for that fight), Miller vs. Diaz, or Shogun vs. Vera. Hell, Shogun vs. Gustafsson is a way better fight than Shogun vs. Vera, and it isn't even the main event.
I think after the first event the UFC's strategy has been to have top contender fights for free on Fox, and hope to parlay those extra eyeballs into PPV buys down the road when they challenge for the title. Rashad, Sonnen, Diaz, and now Machida all got title shots coming off their fights on Fox. This is the first time since JDS-Cain that a title is on the line.
