I think this definitely deserves its own thread.

Watching the 24/7s, I certainly had no idea that Sergio was from a poor background. And I'm sort of not convinced. Competitive cycling is no working class sport. And given that I think he's of Italian heritage, and that I think Argentina has something of a race-class system where European blood tends to be middle-class...but maybe, IDK.

Chavez Jr looked pretty fat during some of the sparring.

I'm hoping we get some footage/talk of Sergio's work-out regimen. It's supposed to be brutal. I can remember them referencing it during a previous fight - some sparring partner going into his gym in Oxnard and just being blown away by Sergio's ethic.

superstar jr. by late stoppage. Martinez tries to play the game he did vs. Pavlik but he's not slick enough to get away from the relentless pressure of a fighter like Chavez. He'll eat shots like he did vs Concreto and Paul Williams

I have Martinez by late stoppage. He's definitely going to get banged up a bit and get knocked down once or twice. But in the end I think his speed will be too much for Chavez to handle.

Martinez is willing to put his life on the line in the ring, yet he's afraid of being in water.

Not to make light of anyone's phobias, I just find his reasoning for not liking/wanting to learn how to swim a bit odd.

It's not a phobia, its cultural: no culture but Anglo / North Euro cultures swim. And recently East-Asians. But South Americans? It's a crazy idea to go into the water and swim around. You go into the Rio de la Plata, you die. South Asians? Italians? Spanish? They think you're insane paddling around with your arms in there.

I don't mean to get off topic here, but stating that only Anglo/European and East Asians cultures like to go swimming is a bit of an over-generalization don't you think? By definition, especially in the manner in which Martinez describes it, it is technically a phobia.

That being said, I can see why Martinez would have a fear of going into the water if he lived in an area where it's dangerous to go swimming. From that standpoint, it's not as odd as it seems.

But to state that it's purely a cultural thing doesn't particularly ring true to me. I know tons of people that grew up in Argentina and countries in South America and they have no fear of swimming or being in bodies of water whatsoever. On top of that, there are tons of swimmers that compete in Olympic trials and championships in South America. They may not be as prevalent or as successful as those from other cultures and countries, but there's still a passion there.

Man, can they really be spinning reality to make Junior only _seem_ to be lazy? Freddie's done so many 24/7s, he's probably willing to play along. Cos this looks ridiculous. How can he have reached this point with such terrible habits? This is going to be a shut-out.

I'd bet that HBO has already dropped-off a load of fedoras and fur coats to JCCJ's house, fueling him to mock Martinez this week.

I was warming-up to go exercise as I watched that 24/7 and was disinspired. Why bother with that last set of crunches, JCC wouldn't.

press conference today was good stuff. Really enjoyed seeing Fat Boy call Macklin and Barker's cherry picked challengers for Martinez.

I was watching that episode with my stepfather yesterday and I changed my prediction completely. I think Martinez is going to end this early. Possibly the 4th or 5th rounds via TKO. JCCJ might have gotten away with this type of BS against the likes of Lee, Rubio and Manfredo, but he's not going to get away with it against Martinez.

I can also see why Martinez dislikes JCCJ so much. World class fighters train with tons discipline and it's obvious JCCJ does not. JCCJ also treats Roach with such little respect. How the hell are you going to take a day off and leave your trainer hanging like that? If I were Freddie I would have dropped him a long time ago. And his father is becoming a huge distraction for him. I know JCC means well, but it could be counter productive to what Freddie is telling him to do.

Every Latino or South American I know is a beach bum and loves the water.

I really dislike Chavez...

Chavez is awesome. He knows he's a guy who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth but he just dgaf about anything.

Chavez looks like he made some strides vs. Lee but I don't buy it. I think once they get in ring it'll be clear Martinez is in another class. TKO 8. I know Chavez is going to be way bigger but Martinez can really hit and I don't see him having a problem finding Chavez.

That scene in the second 24/7 where Chavez is eating cereal and clearly not giving a F what pops is saying is hilarious. The Jay Cutler of boxer.

Also, I reallyyyyy hope this doesn't go to the cards. This seems like the type of fight where some bad stuff will happen if it does.

Shades of Chavez Sr. in the ring, but alas...Jr. is not Sr.. Respect to both, especially Martinez. He held on in the 12th without holding. Just an amazing round.
