The Ultimate Fighter: Team Jones vs. Team Sonnen

Post#1 » by Transistor » Tue Oct 16, 2012 7:33 pm

Interesting. Did Chael just talk his way to a LHW title match?

Whatever, i'll be watching this TUF and i'll be rooting for him anyway. War Sonnen!

Amazing.

This is probably fallout from Andy declining the Jones fight, so I fully expect Silva v. GSP, should he win, for a card around July 4th.

Well, this will definitely increase ratings for TUF, and it should sell well as a PPV.

So I guess the fight with Forrest has been canceled?

So essentially, Robert Follis coaching against Greg Jackson...with Sonnen and Jones creating the drama.

Hate how long it will be until these guys fight again. Jones goes from fighting 4 times a year to taking a 7 month break, so only 2 fights this year and his first fight isn't until halfway through 2013. Sonnen will be off for like 11 months, and his last fight will have been at a different weight class and coming off a loss, before his title shot.

I can live with the Jones layoff, since he's injured and wouldn't be fighting for a while anyway, but Sonnen jumping the line at 205 when coming off a loss at 185 is kind of ridiculous.

That said, this is going to be the most highly anticipated season of TUF since Rampage vs. Rashad. Too bad it's more middleweights. Would be great to use Jones and Sonnen to draw eyeballs to a flyweight season.

This makes no sense.

So Henderson/Machida means nothing because a guy can make people laugh on Youtube?

Let's get ready for people to start convincing themselves Chael will beat Jon.

Hendo got hurt and Machida bitched out and pissed off Dana. They have nothing to be mad about. That being said, Chael is going to get destroyed.

I wish there was a betting prop for "Jones by choke" so i could make money on that given.

Seven months isn't too bad, I just like to take advantage of guys who say they enjoy being active. I think they said recently that Jones arm didn't have any damage. Could be wrong though.

I kind of wish they let the Forrest fight happen. I think people would be more open to this idea if Chael had a fight at 205, and I think Chael would beat Forrest. This seems reactionary to me since tuf just got such horrible numbers.

Fighting skill is secondary to promotion skill.

Right.....

Dan Henderson, on his last major title hunt, doesn't truly deserve the next shot?

Titles mean a lot, both guys have a lot to be mad about,

At least this will be the most satisfying beatdown since Hendo sent Bisping into orbit.

Bonner makes a lot of sense. Double retirement match.

That would be cool, both of them retiring with the same fight they broke into the UFC with. I can't see Bonner quitting any time soon though.

I'm a big Chael Sonnen fan, and I'm glad that he's on TUF, but I would've preferred if they had him coach against Forrest. It would've been a nice tribute to Forrest and they could induct him in the hall of fame towards the end of the season. Dan Henderson deserves his shot, and Sonnen could've gotten a number one contender fight after Forrest, just like Shogun. I guess that Sonnen is a fresh face at 205 that hasn't been destroyed by Jon Jones yet. I do think that Chael can surprise people and do better in this fight than people expect. He's great at closing the distance and wrestling. If he can put Jon on his back that's something we haven't seen before.

Sonnen doesn't deserve this shot, but at the end of the day money talks, and this move is going to be very lucrative for the UFC.
