The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale (Dec. 15th)

Post#1 » by Gold Chain » Fri Nov 2, 2012 4:35 pm

Shane Carwin vs. Roy Nelson
"TUF 16" tournament final
Pat Barry vs. Shane Del Rosario
Melvin Guillard vs. Jamie Varner
James Head vs. Mike Pyle
Jonathan Brookins vs. Dustin Poirier
Nick Catone vs. T.J. Waldburger
Rustam Khabilov vs. Vinc Pichel
Reuben Duran vs. Hugo Viana
Johnny Bedford vs. Marcos Vinicius
Tim Elliott vs. Jared Papazian
John Cofer vs. Mike Rio

I am really interested to see D. Poirier and how he bounces back after the KZ loss.
Brookins looked really good vs Oliveria and I he has the experience on his side.

Brian Head coming off two wins over Papi and Ebersole, as is Pyle over Neer and Funch.
I like this fight as well.

I'd watch Barry fight anytime, anyone, so that's a win.

I think Roy easily takes out Shane. He'll weather the storm of hell from Carwin for a few minutes, and then beat him by being superior at every facet of the fight.

This card is hot garbage. DGAF about most of these dudes and the ones I'm interested in seem like squashes. Card will be saved by Roy's tactical domination of Carwin.

I'm really, really curious as to how Carwin shows up. If we get the guy who blasted Mir and Lesnar and Gonzaga, even Roy's chin may have problems holding up. But he's old as hell, really injured, and been away from the cage forever, not to mention Roy is obviously tough as hell.

I think this is better than most free cards. And thankfully won't have many of the garbage TUF fighters from this season on it.

This is by far the least important TUF coaches fight in TUF history. 4 times the coaches fought for a belt, and every other year the coaches were contenders.

This year an overweight, out-of shape gatekeeper fights a washed up gatekeeper recovering from an injury. Where does a win put either guy? I can't see either guy sniffing the top 5, and Sherdog's rankings have Mike Russow ranked above both guys.

For other contenders Sherdog lists Travis Browne, Cheick Kongo, Mark Hunt, Ben Rothwell, and Stevan Struve but not Roy Nelson or Shane Carwin.

They're also boring to watch on TV. Shane is quiet and hard-working, while Roy is stupid and lazy. Neither one is entertaining. I don't really care who wins the season, as he won't be a contender. I guess I'm still rooting for Neil Magny, but I'm not going to tune in live to see if he's fighting.

I guess that Pat Barry is always fun to watch though.

I think the card is decent compared to other tuf finales usually filled with crappy tuf fighters. Does this mean everyone in the house isn't getting a ufc fight for once? Hope pink mohawk douchebag doesn't, anyway.

Carwin/Nelson is interesting.
Guillard/Varner/Barry/Rosario all bring it.
James Head looked okay in his last fight.
I think Poirier and Brookins is a well made fight. See if Poirier is back on track now that he has moved to att (right?)

I don't think I've ever heard of any of the others besides Bedford, and I only know of him because he looks like Jon Fitch and laid an epic beatdown on Guadinot.

If this is how this cards going to look, btw, would we pick it in the pool? All of the guys on this card have fights in the ufc now. Don't really see why we would skip it since you dont have to watch reality tv to be familiar with these dudes.

Well, not Mayhem, but Bisping received a number one contender shot after beating Mayhem. If Mayhem had beat Bisping he would've been on a 3 fight winning streak, and probably would've been ranked top 10.

Mayhem isn't a top 40 Middleweight. Carwin is a former UFC title holder. I think this fight is much more relevant than Bisping vs. Mayhem.

Another main event cut due to injury...

I was really looking forward to the Carwin/Nelson fight.

I actually used to root for Meathead, but it really rubbed me the wrong way when he called Jones a coward or whatever for turning down the Sonnen fight, and then immediately ducked Cormier a week later.

Not that I blame him for turning down Cormier who would have embarrassed him utterly, but hypocrisy just irritates me.

Would've been more interested in this before the Kongo fight, I don't see how Nelson loses this. I think he'd be a loss away from getting cut if he does though, Dana hates him.

Do you think that's manufactured at all? Dana hated him. Then they started posting youtube clips and articles on ufc.com titled things like "Is Roy Nelson driving Dana Crazy?!"

Seems about as manufactured as Rashad/Rampage to me at this point.

I think there's a bit more to it (though both are playing it up more this season). Even when Roy was on TUF as a fighter Dana was talking **** about him and again before this season of TUF was announced they were going at each other in the media about drug testing and Roy's appearance etc. For some reason Dana is a bit weird about the way guys look, remember him getting angry about Dave Herman growing his hair out lol. Roy's a big fat guy with a mullet and a huge beard, he can't market that.

I think it was real at one point. Then those ufc.com videos and blurbs and tweets about Roy and Dana's feud started coming out and it felt like Vince McMahon vs CM Punk or something to me.

Could be wrong though. Remember how much Rashad/Rampage hate eachother? Then their would be like pictures of them in the club together. lol

I think Chael/Jones is much the same as those two. They were acting like best mates in that video of them answering twitter questions, probably diminished a fair bit of the hype around their season just by doing that

I'm a big Mitrione fan, but I'd rather they do Barry vs. Mitrione and Shane del Rosario vs. Roy Nelson.

I just can't see Mitrione being competitive with Nelson, unless he's improved leaps and bounds.
