But Rousey won't be fighting Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos, as Wednesday's rumor had her meeting. Instead, Rousey (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will be meeting Liz Carmouche (7-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) as the first defense of her new UFC women's bantamweight title at UFC 157 in February.

Her main eventing a PPV is exactly what I didn't want to see.

Really wish they built up the division first by putting fights on free TV events.

At least they were smart enough to put a main event quality co-main event on this card to cover for the title fight being lackluster.

This will be the first in a long line of easy wins for Rousey while the UFC tries to build her up to be some unstoppable monster

What fight was the famous gif where Dana was sooooooo pissed that some champion had won and was pouting when giving the other guy the belt?

Multiply that x700 if Ronda gets KOed by Carmouche. Could you imagine?

God I hope it happens. This girl is 7-2. The last two girls she beat are a combined 1-5 in 2012 and before taking out those punching bags she was on a 2 fight losing streak... and is headlining a UFC PPV. What a farce

I don't really understand American betting odds but Rousey is -1380 for this fight on one website

At least she is coming off a win. Two of the dudes getting title shots in the ufc right now are coming off losses. There is a definite shift going on right now imo. I just hope some of these changes are reactionary due to all the injuries.

At least it's the main event, that means I can go to sleep earlier.

Don't have an opinion, really, now that this has come to fruition. I'll watch it, but I still think it's a horrible idea and PPV buys will reflect that and then Dana will scrap the idea of WMMA being comparable to MMA, when it really isn't.

One thing not mentioned... Hendo/Machida is now only three rounds. But it's all good, instead of a potentially 25 minute fight between two legends who have yet to face eachother, we'll get about a minute of an armbar clinic in a fight no one cares about.

Wasn't that when Cain beat Lesnar for the heavyweight title?

I was thinking Carwin over Mir when Dana still thought people would love Mir/Brock, but you are right, it was the Cain fight:

Carmouche is an open lesbian who served in the Marine Corps. Having her as a champion wouldn't be horrible for the UFC.

I think that they purposely put the first women's fight with a fight that everyone wants to see(Machida-Henderson), so that way people will watch the women's fight and Dana can spin it as women's MMA being big. The funny thing is that Machida and Henderson will both make way more money than Carmouche, and they'll probably make more than Ronda.

Yeah but to be fair the losses those guys are coming off were against Anderson Silva and Carlos Condit. This girl getting a title shot would be the equivalent of Todd Duffee coming back, beating Christian Morecraft or someone and getting an immediate title shot.

First openly gay fighter in the UFC.

Wasn't Seth Petrezili (sp?) open towards the end? Or am I completely remembering things wrong, which might be the case.
