UFC 160: Velasquez vs. Silva II (May 25th)

Post#1 » by CPT » Wed Feb 13, 2013 4:16 am

Title says it all. I'll post a link when I can get to a real computer instead of my phone.

Don't like the title fight, but IMO it's worth it to get JDS vs Overeem.

Should have told Big Nog to fake an injury so Cain/Werdum could happen.

JDS vs. Overeem could either be really epic or really awful. Hopefully they both come in in-shape and at the top of their game.

Yea. This is an unnecessary rematch. Silva got thoroughly dominated by Velezquez and didn't look great in the fight with Overeem either.

JDS is just too fast imo. That slow reaching and clinching isn't going to cut it against JDS.

The title fight is underwhelming because Bigfoot's chin is so big and hittable (and with frequency) by Cain. That said, due to the ufc's insistence on having relevant fighters tied up by the show, and Cormier's insistence to not fight Cain, this is the fighter with the most merit for the title shot without shelfing Cain forever. And seeing how that is something I was just arguing for on this board as recently as yesterday, I guess I have to be cool with it.

Any news if this is going to be a HW main card, as rumoured? Any more fights added?

I don't think there are enough other HWs anyone would want to see.

I can't say I'm too outraged about Werdum not getting the fight. He's got 2 decent wins in a row, but couldn't have less steam behind him, really. It would kind of seem like he was coming out of nowhere if he got this fight. At least Big Foot just got a big win on a big card.

I'd actually like it if Werdum got the shot over the JDS/Reem winner though. Let either of those fights build up a bit. I kinda like what the UFC is doing lately in making the big fights, but they have to avoid making the big fights that nobody is asking for.

Dos Santos is going to destroy Overeem.

TKO, easy.

Reem's spirit will be broken after a few good shots.

If I am the manager at Blackzillians, I am now drinking scotch all day, because this team is soon to implode.

Damn, this is gonna be a big one.

Stephen Thompson vs. Amir Sadollah has been booked as well. Should be a nice fight on the prelims.

Bader is getting KO'd here.

Glover, imo, still has nothing for top-end LHW's.

We'll see.

TJ Grant vs. Gray Maynard added to the card.

Could Gray get a title shot if he beats TJ in impressive fasion? I don't know if Maynard would beat Bendo, but I think that he matches up well with him.

Nelson vs Pyle...I have no idea how these guys survive in the cage. They both stand straight-up with their chins in the air swaying around like cornstalks.

Gunner's a young guy, he'll figure it out or find himself Struved.

Pyle has no excuse though.

I think Maynard might be in trouble, which is fine. TJ Grant will be on the scene.

If Sadollah sticks to training in Holland, he's done for too, I'm afraid. His movement is so predictable, that douche karate kid will pick him apart.

Pyle has been winning is the thing. It's inexplicable. 6 of his last 7, only loss to Rory. 7-3 in the UFC. Three straight KOs.
