Best free card ever? On paper?

I absolutely love some of these match ups.

Gastelum's getting thrown into the semi-deep end of the pool. Thiago's no killer, but he is a solid vet grappler and has crafty subs and should threaten if taken down. Gastelum's going to be tested and I'll be very impressed with a dominant victory.

Alcantara/Faber is one to watch. The future of the division depends on Alcantara winning, he needs better competition and the division needs less Faber.

Pickett/McDonald should be a firefight, but I say that about all of Pickett's fights (top five SDM fighter).

Ring's ability to make fights messy scorecard cluster **** poses a unique challenge for Uriah Hall. I just don't get the matchmaking if they expect a showcase fight for Hall... Ring's not the guy to give you that. He's a neutralizer.

BROWN/ALVES. Holy ****. Not sure if Alves has much left, however.

And at least one apartment in Toronto will have a tenant mimicking Conor MacGregor's stance after he ruins Ogle.

Don't care much about Browne/Reem/Rua/Chael, but they're great fights to keep guys in the bottom half of the top ten busy.

Mike Brown vs Akira Corassani...that's former champ Mike Brown, right? Was he retired, or did I just imagine that?

Great card, agree with pretty much all of the above.

I'd have to think about it, but is Paulo Thiago not the toughest opponent a TUF winner has fought in their first fight? Serra/Lutter don't count, obviously, and Roy Nelson probably doesn't either.

Yeah, same one. He just signed a new 5 fight deal, so it's probably not him you're thinking of.

Man, throwing Gastelum in the deep end a little bit. I'll echo sdm's thoughts here. Despite Thiago not being a world beater, the difference in experience and competition level is pretty significant. Also isn't Kelvin one of the youngest dudes in the ufc? Or is that just youngest tuf winner or something?

cpt- Yea, Mike Brown comes out of retirement.

IDK about Alves these days. I wonder if Brown imposes a gameplan like he did on what's his name...the muay thai black guy: Doomsday. Take him down, beat him up. Despite being on a skid, Alves is technical on the feet. Just cannot see Brown getting the better of him there.

Didn't know MB retired. I thought you guys might have been thinking about Brian Bowles, but apparently he never retired either and was just injured for 18 months.

Matt Brown 2.0 isn't afraid to trade, but I think he's smart enough to avoid it against Alves. I imagine a lot of level changes, forward pressure. He's going to bait Alves into backing up straight to push him against the cage. I don't see it looking like the Wonderboy/Doomsday fights... Alves is too good for that single-minded approach and I think Brown must respect that and work on being a thorn in Alves' side for two rounds before really turning up the heat and challenging his (Alves') gas tank. If Brown manages to turn it into a brawl, he has this. We've seen Alves crumble in a brawl, but never Brown. I probably overrate mental toughness as a whole (I think it's legit) and Brown has another gear that Alves doesn't. Perhaps Alves' striking won't ever let it get to that point... this is a toss up for me.

Probably. Sadollah getting Henricks is impressive in retrospect though.

It's pretty freaking awesome, but I wouldn't say it's the best. That last Fox was a beast. I think that one edges it.

It had more legit top 5 or so fighters like Melendez, Bendo, Cormier, Mendes, Benavidez, and Thomson. On this card, Shogun isn't what he used to be, I don't think Chael has ever shown to be a top fighter at 205, Overeem's got his questions now, Browne and Alcantara I like but I'm not sure about, California Kid is getting up there, etc. The only one I'm really sure about is McDonald. There's probably a couple more, and I am looking at the pessimistic side, but we are talking best ever, and UFC on Fox 7 set a really high standard, IMO.

Also that UFC on Fox 7 card was good top to bottom, and a finished product. It had some attrition, like a card usually does. We'll see where this one is at on fight night. I hope it does stay largely in-tact.

This is 6 hours of fights all on FS1, both main card and prelims from what I understand.

Testostereem and Ephedreem should win, but Overeem probably not.

Brandao/Pineda added. Gastelum/Thiago moved to the other Fox card (the one with Condit/Kampmann).

It 100% depends on whether Overeem comes in with b*tch tits or not.

If you get Speed, you get this channel. Because it's morphing into/being re-branded as FS1. It's in 90 million homes or thereabouts. You probably have it, especially if you have Fuel, but may not have been aware up until now because you are indifferent about racing/cars. I fell into that category with both Speed and Fuel. Incidentally, FS2 is Fuel re-branded.

Oh ok, yes I get Speed. Thanks

Sure, and I edited it in before you responded, but FS2 is just Fuel re-branded. So you're in luck there as well, for whenever they debut on that channel.

I get Fuel, but not Speed. Maybe they'll switch things up for me.
