God I hope Tavares, who I am a big fan of, smashes Bubba.

I don't like Bubba at all, but I think I'd almost feel bad for hating on the dude now after he got murdered by Uriah.

Almost.

I'm kind of a fan of the guy as well. IMO, he should be undefeated in pro, 12-0. All Aaron Simpson did was cage moosh him while taking a few hammer blows surrounding.

After that he's went on a 3 fight win streak against decent UFC fighters in Fukuda, Dongi, and Kong. So why the hell is he facing Bubba after that? It makes no damn sense. It's like when the UFC matched up Khabib with Trujillo after the Eagle just ktfo'ed Thiago Tavares.

Brad Tavares is still a pretty young guy, at 25, but they have to start moving him up the ladder, soon. He shouldn't get a top 5-10, after a pushover, like a lot of fighters and fans often overreact to. But how about a top 20 at least? Belcher, Ace, Cung, or someone like that?

Other match-ups worth commenting on...

I think Cerrone will take out RDA. I think this would be the biggest win of RDA's career. His next biggest was against Dunham, and that was quite a controversial one, although I was in the minute majority who thought he won. I think Cerrone has beaten a better fighter than RDA, in Varner. RDA is kind of like a poor man's version of that. Boxer/wrestler with solid jits, who is a bit of a choker, but not as physically gifted, or nearly as durable. RDA has better sub defense. That's about it. What I think is his undoing in this fight is his lack of durability. Got ko'ed by Stephens, his jaw broken by Guida (of all people), was hurt several times vs. Tibau (who in spite of being huge, does not pack strike power), and was in lots of trouble against Griffin. Cowboy's power is overrated, but it's better than some of those guys. I think he either uses the durability advantage to either finish RDA or get a fight-changing 10-8 round, on his way to victory.

Obviously were also both looking forward to Condit-Kampmann. Condit should finally get his revenge. But you're conflicted, I bet. You like guys who get pummeled for an entire fight and then pull w's out of their ass, like Kampmann. :)

Tavares seems like a super nice kid with a bright future. I can't even remember why I started liking him, I think I was just rooting for him against someone I didn't like, and kind of dug his style and have been a fan and semi-following him ever since.

People probably think I like Kampmann more than I do (particularly on this board) because I used to argue hard for him against someone who called him 'just a gatekeeper' or something. And tbh the dude could never win another fight in his career and imo its impossible to argue he wasn't better than that. Ellenberger, Alves, Story, Thiago, Volkmann, Condit, Leities...also beat Shields and Diego imho but that's neither here nor there. I am a fan of the guy though.

Anyway, I'll root for Condit. I admit to being lukewarm about him for awhile when he was on the shelf for long periods, turning down fights, etc. But to me, the guy is back to being the natural born killer and I personally have him as the 2nd best ww in the world (although ironically I think I scored it for Diaz 3-2). I thought he whooped Hendricks ass and despite probably losing 4 or 5 rounds against GSP, that head kick he landed is one of my favorite strikes in an mma match of all time.

Oh I didn't realize he was dropping. He was adamantly against it as of just after his tuf finale.

Melancon man, that guy is a beast. Guy who said he tries to be like Fedor. I know we aren't talking about a spring chicken here, but for a guy with a relatively young career to date...I dislike this fight in the same vein that I disliked Holloway/McGregor this weekend.

Yeah, my biggest pet peeve with Joe Silva is the matching up of two guys with potential too early into their careers. I'm not sure either is a high end prospect like Bader/Bones, so this one is not as egregious, but jeez... why would you have The Who and Thin Lizzy headline a club show when in five years they could headline a festival?

Deep card, assuming some of these guys you're mentioning (Whittaker and Melancon an dAlloway) are for real. I never heard of them. And considering that they have two other card in the like 8 days or something, this is fantastic.

What a week of fights! This event, a PPV this weekend, and another FN next Wednesday?

Between Roger Bowling fighting and all the adjustments he'll have to make to his rankings, Cammo will be all fapped out. Keep hydrated, bro. :)

Melancon is the dude who beat down Seth Baczynski back on the Silva/Weidman card. I remember some guys were praising him on this board. On the flip side, we were all thinking he'd drop to LW because he kind of just looked like a blown up 155er fighting at ww (did he take that fight on short notice or something?). Anyway, ridic power and just hit Baczynski so hard his knees buckled. Said he tries to fight like Fedor in his post fight interview iirc.

The fact that Kelvin is coming down from 185 and he should probably be at 155 kind of makes me favor Kelvin. I almost always favor the wrestler/grappler when they have a decent size advantage.

Actually I said before in this thread that Kelvin was adamant about not dropping weight, it may have actually been Melancon and I got them confused. I really like both guys.

Whittaker and Melancon are legit... not sure if they're winning tonight, but they are legit. You'd probably be a fan of Whittaker's boxing, actually. Go look up his fight with Colton Smith.

Alloway's a good striker, but his wrestling is really, really bad.

I just realized that the main event is the Hitman vs. the Natural Born Killer.

With more eyes on this board tonight probably due to the event, I'd like to try to get some discussion going about something that has kind of been bothering me for a few days (and something which will reinforce the opinion that I am simply a just bleed mma fan :) )

Condit, in a recent interview, was talking about the Hendricks fight. When asked if he thought he won, he essentially said that if it was a street fight, he whooped Hendricks. But since it was an mma competition that had to be scored a certain way, he thought Hendricks deserved to win.

Does this bother anyone else? We are watching a fight, right? Are we making things too complicated here? Why can't we just call the guy who beat the other guy up the victor (think macro here, disregard your opinion on that particular fight)? I understand that having various criteria such as cage control, aggression, etc is a way to systematically get the judges to organize their thoughts and leave less room for personal biases but that is an idea and not what plays out imo.

But then I have problems with my own opinion here. I think it would look trashy for the ufc to say that the fight is judges based on "damage to opponent" but then again maybe not. It is a fight, after all. And I'm not even sure if that would be the best indicator of who wins anyway. If a guy has multiple deep submission attempts but can't get that tap but in the end didn't cause a lot of damage, did he win? I like to think so. So should the criterion be "attempts to finish the fight?" But then on that note, Leonard Garcia attempts to finish the fight with every punch and I haven't scored a fight for him pretty much ever. So I don't know what my point is with all of this.

IDK, just ranting, any thoughts?

Oh and also, just bleed bros.
