The One: Mayweather vs Canelo (Sept 14)

Post#1 » by ItsDaBrush » Sun Sep 1, 2013 11:55 pm

The biggest event in combat sports since DLH/Mayweather is only 2 weeks away and it definitely needs its own thread
Location: MGM Grand
Channel: Showtime PPV
Cost: $75 for HD or $65 for Standard Definition. Or you can google "Fatom Events" and search for a movie theater showing the fight on the big screen at a location near you

Also part of the PPV undercard is IBF Light Middleweight champion and TMT fighter Ishe Smith 25(11)-5 vs top 5 154er Carlos Molina 21(6)-5-2.

And the opening bout involves another Money Team fighter with Ashley Theophane vs Pablo Cesar Cano

I'm only a casual boxing fan, but I can't remember the last time I've been this hyped for a fight. It's probably the most concerned I've been about Floyd's winning streak coming to an end. Such an intriguing fight.

I see Mayweather winning this one but it'll be tough. It's always dangerous to face a young, hungry, talented fighter in Alvarez.

Saul won't be able to match Mayweather's speed and Mayweather will do the usual and do enough to win by decision.

I watched Alvarez vs Trout again and I just don't think Canelo has what it takes short of cleaning Mayweather out with one shot(And yes I'm aware of the different complexities of an Orthodox vs Southpaw fight). Everyone talks about Canelo having to pace himself because his stamina isn't so good, but the more telling negative to me at least as it pertains to the Mayweather fight is his footwork. He's too heavy on his feet to successfully cut the ring off against Mayweather.

Canelo has devastating combinations and quick hands, but he has to be set in order to throw them(Maywweather won't be around long enough for that happen). When it comes to the waiting game and throwing single punches at a time like he had to do against Trout he's not going to be able to win at Mayweather's game like that. I see Canelo chasing shadows for 12 and unless his footwork and stamina are massively improved he's going to get a boxing lesson.

Source? They're fighting at 152, right? 5lbs in seven days, not sure how much of that is water weight for canelo, but damn....

If Floyd fights like his old self, the one his dad got him back to against the ghost, it will be a long night for Canelo. But I give Canelo a chance, he's actually a much better boxer than he gets credit for. The only real concern should be the size, the kid is a really big dude. I could see Floyd hurting his hand again as he chopping away at the tree.

"Canelo Alvarez and I have big fights coming up this weekend. His is the ring and mine in treatment. will not be at the fight this Saturday to cheer Canelo to victory since I have voluntarily admitted myself into a treatment facility. I explained this to Canelo and he understood that my health and longterm recovery from my disease must come first. Thank you for your understanding. I ask for your support and privacy during this difficult time for me and my family."

The guy always picking against Floyd was literally on drugs. Hope he gets help, been a well known secret that DLH was on that powder after those fishnet tranny pics

Floyd by an easy UD.

Matthysse by KO.

I just don't think Canelo will be able to sustain enough pressure on Mayweather for a full 12 rounds. He looked gassed at times during his last fight against Trout. He's going to get gassed trying to keep up with Floyd. Losing another 2 pounds to make 152 can only hurt his stamina here.

I think Garcia will give Matthysse some problems. But in the end he's going to buckle when Lucas's heavy hands starts taking its toll on him.

Rumors saying canelo stuck at 155? There's no way this fight gets called off... Canelo will just have to take a bite out of that guaranteed 5mil purse.

Great minds think alike. Even though if Canelo worked on his conditioning, AND as you said sustain a full on pressure assault cutting Floyd off and keeping him on the ropes for 12 rounds it could be very close. Still, I think Floyd has it on the bag. Garcia - Matthysse will be a great fight, I'm actually equally excited for this one as the FMW-Canelo fight. As you said Garcia will give Matthysse some problems, but not enough to stop him. Matthysse has super heavy hands and is a brawler, I get the feeling it will quickly turn into a slug fest. Garcia won't make it pass the 8th.

The weigh-in is today at 6:00pm ET/3:00pm PM. ESPN will be showing it live although I'm sure it will just be Mayweather/Canelo that they show. You can also it on Showtime, streamed on youtube, Badlefthook and 15 other boxing websites.

Awesome, thanks for this. My guess is mayweather comes in at 152 and canelo comes a little over 153 and needs to re weigh...

Jim Rome just had Al Bernstein on his show and AB said that there is no specific "re-hydration weight" that either fighter can't go over. Considering Floyd is coming up in weight, he'll more than likely be around 154-156# for the fight, where he expects Canelo to come to the ring about mid to high 160's, maybe even 170#.

Floyd hasn't had this quick of turnaround (4 months) between fight's since 2001 and he's never faced anyone as big or as strong as Canelo. He's got very good hand speed with that power. His body shots look very punishing. The punch he knocked Trout down with wasn't really even full extension.

Floyd will probably win but will be rooting for Canelo. My buddy already has it ordered and I can't wait.

Link to the weigh-in, going live in just a minute. Chris Mannix from SI said that there's 12,200 people in attendance just for the weigh-in
