UFC 174 (6/14): Johnson vs. Bagautinov, Rory vs. TWood

Post#1 » by CPT » Sat Apr 12, 2014 3:47 pm

In Vancouver, BC.

Demetrious Johnson vs. Ali Bagautinov (for flyweight title)
Rory MacDonald vs. Tyron Woodley
Kiichi Kunimoto vs. Daniel Sarafian
Mike Easton vs. Yves Jabouin
Roland Delorme vs. Michinori Tanaka
Kajan Johnson vs. Tae Hyun Bang

Expect to see the card filled with a lot of Canadians. Maybe even some who can do a quick turnaround after the TUF Nations show.

Glad to see Kajan get a chance, he was an interesting character on the show. Bang probably isn't UFC level, but Kajan might not be either.

Bader vs. Feijao and Schaub vs. Arlovski added to this card. Pretty solid additions. Could make for a good main card at least if no fights fall apart.

Is Kajan Johnson the guy that got capoiera kicked right in the f**k in Japan a few years back?

I didn't know that was a thing. Or I did and forgot.

Either way, I guess it's not happening.

Maybe they will do Hunt/Nelson, which I think people would rather see. Then the winners fight in a title eliminator because the HW division is ridiculous.

Why they bringing back Arlovski? The dude is glass and Schaub will KO him with a left-handed jab.

Might just be my outdated perception, but I think he's still one of the more skilled HWs. You're right about his chin though.

This goes against what I feel in other divisions, but HW is awful, so I wouldn't even mind seeing him in some retirement tour type fights that we never got to see. Mir, Nog, Barnett, Hunt, etc. Chances are he loses all of those, but if he manages to win a couple, put him in a fight with one of the guys being groomed for a title shot.

I could change my mind about all of this if Schaub puts his lights out inside two minutes though, lol.

I think the "Arlovski's chin is glass thing" is way, way overblown. What punches knocked him out that shouldn't have? I remember when he got KOed by bombs from K-1 HW Kharitonov, people were saying "lolz see told you he had teh glass chin!!111". Those were huge shots and he took several huge shots on the chin in that fight and kept coming.

Just because he makes funny faces when he bites the dust doesn't mean his chin is THAT bad. :D

Agreed re: his chin, RZ. I've seen the dude take some hellacious shots post UFC and shake them off. He's just got a funny KO face and his striking D is poor/doesn't move his head so he gets hit a lot.

I think Schaub might actually have a glassier chin.

All those new event threads pushed this to the second page, so, bump.

Up to date card:

main CARD
Pay-per-view, 10 p.m. ET
Demetrious Johnson vs. Ali Bagautinov for flyweight title
Rory MacDonald vs. Tyron Woodley
Ryan Bader vs. Rafael Cavalcante
Andrei Arlovski vs. Brendan Schaub
Ryan Jimmo vs. Ovince St. Preux

preliminary CARD
FX, 8 p.m. ET
Kiichi Kunimoto vs. Daniel Sarafian
Valerie Letourneau vs. Elizabeth Phillips
Mike Easton vs. Yves Jabouin
Kajan Johnson vs. Tae Hyun Bang
preliminary CARD

UFC Fight Pass, 7 p.m. ET
Roland Delorme vs. Michinori Tanaka
Jason Saggo vs. Josh Shockley

-------------------------------

Is Rory vs. T-Wood a #1 contender fight now that Dana has to promote this event, or is he sticking with Lawler vs. Brown?

Jimmo vs. OSP for the LHW Intercontinental Championship.

I agree, and I think that this is true for most fighters that people say have a glass chin. People get knocked out in this sport. The best fighters are very good defensive fighters. (Cain uses pressure for defense).

That is one weak PPV. None of the fights except for the top 2 have any relevance. Jimmo/OSP gonna be boring as hell

Yea, I don't care about any fights on this card outside of the top 2.

I don't really care about them either, but I'd like to see Feijao whoop Bader, Arlovski KO Schaub and OSP beat Jimmo.

Yes, but maybe we'll get lucky and Schaub will get knocked out. Would salvage the whole card, imo.

Rory/Woodley might be a staring contest as well considering the tentative nature of Rory's fights when he goes up against someone with power. This should've really been a Fox card.

I don't care who wins, as I'm not really a fan of either. But this fight has the potential to be a snoozer if Woodley doesn't push the pace. That's why I'm on the fence about watching this event, quite possible that only the main event will be BOTH relevant and exciting.

How can you call yourself a fan and at the same time claim that you won't watch a Mike "Excitement" Easton fight?

Checking out these lines. I kind of like Rory as a slight dog. Kind of surprised to see Feijao as a dog (i've never really believed in Bader) but he's so boom/bust I may not touch that one.

Finally, I may throw a buck or five on Bagautinov. He didn't let me down against Lineker, and he's a hugeee dog here. There may be some value IDK. Mouse is just so goddman good though.
