UFC 175 (7/5): Weidman/Machida, Rousey/Davis

Chris Weidman vs. Lyoto Machida (for middleweight title)
Ronda Rousey vs. Alexis Davis (for women's bantamweight title)
Wanderlei Silva vs. Chael Sonnen
Uriah Hall vs. Thiago "Marreta" Santos
This is a big one. With so few draws on the roster right now, it's interesting to see them put so many on the same card. Especially Wandy vs. Chael. Not that it's especially relevant or anything, but that's a fight you can build a minor show around, and it's probably not drawing any eyeballs the top two fights won't have watching anyway.

It would have been nice if they put Rousey/Davis or Silva/Sonnen on UFC 173 or UFC 174. Those cards need a little help in my opinion.

I'm going to try to go to this card. So far I've been to Henderson vs. Fedor, JDS vs. Mir, and Pettis vs. Henderson 2.

Faber vs Barao III after he murders Caceres?

There is literally no way for Caceres to win this.
Time to start looking at catchweight fights for Faber. He's the clear, clear, clear bridesmaid of his division and he's not getting an engagement ring anytime soon. Send him to a bat mitzvah.
Terrible analogies since 2004.

Wand is out. Belfort in. Didn't Chael call this months ago?
Chael's take:
Wanderlei has operated his entire career under the shadow of suspicion that he was using performance enhancing drugs. However he has never failed a drug test, so we don't speculate on those types of things," Sonnen said, right at the top of the show. "That clean record came to a screeching halt on Saturday night. Not only did he fail his test, he refused to take the test, and as you know a refusal is equal in the eyes of the commission to a failure. He ran from the test, Kenny, and I don't mean that figuratively, I mean they came to his gym and he literally ran. He goes out of a side door, they go after him saying his name.
I have not spoke to the athletic commission in Nevada, so here I am going to speculate that they will revoke his license, and perhaps his career in the UFC will be done.

I guess Belfort/Sonnen will fight at 205 for a chance at the title at 185. LOL.
If its true that Wand just didn't show up to get licensed in Nevada...that's pretty Fed up. Maybe Wand will make a video explaining where he points and yells threats at the camera for half an hour.

To the surprise of no one. What a joke Wanderlei has become.

Wand knows Chael is a bad matchup. Four times Wand turned down the fight with Chael. At UFC 167- Wand last year, before Sonnen vs. Rashad was made- Wand turned it down when Dana wanted the fight to be Co-main event to Hendricks vs. GSP. Dana hinted at that. The fight was supposed to happen last week- but Wand said his back was hurt. Fight was postponed to July- Now Wand did not submit an application- so July 5 Vitor will step in. The fight was supposed to happen in 2011- but Wand declined at that time when Chael called him out, and said he needed time off. Four F'N times Chael was ready- Wand weaseled his way out.

That's a better fight anyway. I hope you're just joking about the title shot though.
Still sad to see Wandy go out in such an embarrassing fashion. Though I guess if he's always been a juicer, he deserves it.

Eh, it's tough to criticize someone for doing something that everyone was doing back in his prime. I have no doubts that Pride Wandy was juiced to the gils, but so was everyone he fought over there except Saku. Same reason I don't have an issue with NBA and NFL guys juicing as much as they do.

Yeah, can't fault the guy for his past, when juicing was ignored. But now, running out a side door... that **** is hilarious and kind of pathetic. Can't juice anymore and if he needs it, it's time to hang it up. Which he should have done about 7 fights ago anyway.

Wand isn't scared of fighting Chael, but he knows he will lose to Chael and the stakes are too high at this point.
Let's pretend like their fight was 100% legit for a second. He felt the power of that double leg.
Now we just have to wonder if Chael will go into full beta mode with Vitor like he did against Bones and Rashad. He never fights well when he starts talking about how great his opponents are, and I've heard him call Vitor the scariest figher in the sport. He fights best when he doesn't respect their skills a la Anderson I.

I'm completely fine with this. This fight now should be more competitive and have more meaning. I always thought that Sonnen vs. Belfort was inevitable. I thought that Sonnen would beat Wandy, call out Belfort, then beat Belfort and call out Anderson.
Either guy can win this fight, but I'm leaning towards Sonnen. Belfort hasn't done great against wrestlers.
While some Media is reporting this is for the title shot, the only person who has said it's for a title shot is Chael Sonnen:
“Vitor and I are both middleweights, and that is the contendership that is on the line. Vitor’s the No. 1 contender; he’s putting that title on the line. Consider it a catchweight that it will be taking place at 205 pounds.”
Vitor is the number 1 contender at MW, and Chael Sonnen is 5-0 in his last 5 middleweight fights against guys not named Anderson Silva. If Sonnen beats Vitor, who is he stepping over? Jacare is injured, Rockhold is on a 2 fight winning streak and wants to fight Vitor or Bisping next, Kennedy is on a 4 fight win streak but the only top 15 fighter he's beat during that is Bisping, Munoz is 1-2 in his last 3 fights and is scheduled to fight Mousasi, and then Bisping is next in the rating, but I think we'd all agree that him getting the title shot would be worse than Sonnen.
If Sonnen beats the number one contender would giving him a title shot really be that egregious? It's also on the same card as Machida vs. Weidman, so it'd work well for marketing and timing purposes.

I think Dana retweeted Chael's tweet that it was for the title shot, which is confirmation enough.

Yes, by the time the fight actually happened it would be almost 2.5 years since he had even COMPETED in the division that he would be fighting for a title in, and 3 years since he won in that division. Not to mention he hasn't even looked good in the division he has been competing in the interim. Stupid.

I don't disagree with this. But the fan in me still wants to see a juiced up Wandy wailing maniacally at folks who'll stand and swing back, no matter how much of a hypocrite it makes me.
