And I thought the closest Mark Hunt would ever get to a title would be that bout against JDS. Now he has a chance to actually fight for the title. Never thought it would happen but man I'm excited.

I guess that's what they have to do, but there's a HW with wins over both Werdum and Hunt, who deserves a shot at the fake belt more. (Hint: not Alistair Overeem).

And I'm sorta of surprised that fighters getting injured hasn't caused Dana to die from an aneurysm yet.

Wait, JDS? You are a sadistic sob if you want to live in a universe where there exists the possibility that Cain Velasquez and JDS could potentially enter the same cage again.
He doesn't deserve it more than those two anyway. edit: I can see the argument, but imo, I don't think so.

As much as I love JDS, I don't see him winning the belt unless he hits Cain with a freak KO punch again. In their last two fights, Cain took some bombs from JDS and just kept going. JDS needs to change up his game

Re: UFC 180(Nov 15)Cain/Werdum,Hunt steps in for injured Cai
Uhhh, that destroys the event. It was centered around Cain in Mexico. Both Tony Show and El Nino are Mexican. I'm just sayin'. Why do they need every low rated episode of TUF to promote it? That's an archaic custom.
Man, there has been some rough luck with title fights in major MMA lately. I'm one of those behind the over-saturation complaint bullhorn, but this is a big factor too.
Not sure who I individually feel more sorry for, Cain or Werdum. Cain might be done with another procedure, but at least he won a few titles. Werdum has gotta be close to done from an age perspective, and he's waited for a shot for a real title for such a long time already. Now he's got to settle for this phony belt against a 10-8-1 40-year old who got spin kick ko'ed by JDS.
If it's me, I probably move up Showtime-El Nino to Nov. 15, strip Cain of his belt if this is another long-term thing, and do the HW title fight vs. JDS on Dec. 6 or for the UFC on Fox later in the month. Werdum could be avenging a loss there, and JDS could now be the best if Cain is never the same, so that would be a legit title-winning w.

Too many things would have to happen to factor that in to the decision, IMO.
Firstly, JDS would need to beat Werdum, which he did before, but I don't think would again, especially after what Cain did to him, twice. Werdum still seems fresh as a daisy, and has improved dramatically with his striking since. I think Werdum may have beaten Cain. He probably does troll the rest of the division with his point at ground to straight right combo.
Cain would also probably have to pull a Cruz, beat a contender, and look the same as before after all those procedures, which was unique.

I don't want to see him fight Cain again. But he has the 2nd best resume in the HW division, easily.

Yea but having a better resume overall doesn't necessarily mean he currently deserves the shot more. Werdum has won four in a row. Granted when I made the post I guess I didn't realize Hunt only had one win since his loss to JDS.

Just fold the HW division already.

How about we put Cormier back on his Popeye's diet?

After he takes the gold belt from Jones first. I want to see Jones get a beat down

Rush another fight for Arlovski, throw him in the mix right away if he wins. He's good, they should put some marketing muscle behind him and appeal for nostalgia/UFC golden days.

I'll actually somewhat disagree with you here re: feeling sorry for Werdum. I don't think he would have beaten Cain at altitude, really slim chance imo. He could beat him standing, and could beat him on the ground, but he would have no answer for being pushed against the fence and beat up like Cain would do to him.
As is, Werdum should be able to put away Hunt and add a "ufc title" to a resume that is otherwise shaping up to be pretty great tbh: Fedor, Browne, Nogueira, Nelson, Overeem, Bigfoot, Vera, Gonzaga (and possibly Hunt soon)
