I like the main event, but I wonder why they are taking such a risk with Gus getting to his Jones title rematch (Jones though has his own risk of course).

So this will take from from 8-10 for fox viewership, but Sweden is 6 hours ahead. So the main event probably won't be wrapping up until 4 am or later. Crazy.

Also, the risk is mitigated by the fact that if Gus loses, Johnson becomes a no brainer title challenger.

I think it's kinda dumb.

Jones has 3 interesting fights available: DC, Gus II, Johnson. That's about it, and there's nothing else on the horizon. None of them need a win over the other to justify a shot. Hell, the shot DC is getting originally belonged to Gus.

I guess the thinking is the winner will go into a fight with Jones with a lot of momentum, and the loser will be able to recover with one or two wins in the interim, but guaranteeing a loss for one of them is kind of risky.

BTW, the shttiness of HW is seeping into LHW. This list is depressing:

This fight has intrinsic value in it though. What happens if Jones get injured again? These guys just sit around twiddling their thumbs while the UFC promots main events that are way worse than this? The loser of this fight just has to win a couple of fights against fighters from the list in order to earn another title shot. It's going to be a while before the winner of Jones-DC faces the winner of this fight.

Besides, what if Cormier beats Jones? Jones could face the loser of this fight, but the UFC would probably give him an immediate rematch.

That's a good point. I suppose on its own, it's about as good a fight as you can make at LHW, and we shouldn't worry too much about the title picture/business side. But I do, and my interest in the LHW division revolves entirely around Jon Jones and seeing him take on all comers, preferably with different styles, advantages, and disadvantages.

And yeah, if DC beats Cormier, we're not seeing either of these two guys fight for the title for a while anyway. There will be a rematch and possibly even a rubber match, depending on how the fights go.

If he beats those 3(Gus again), there's really no one left in that division. He should then move to HW.

Might this be for a fake belt, given what Jones is up to? Seen a few suggest that, but it'd be premature IMO.

Just had a card a couple days ago and there's a precipitous drop after the top 3? Corassani/Sicilia has no business main carding a FS1, let alone a Fox.

I didn't know there was an event this week until right now. I thought this was next week. I'm more relieved to find out there is an event, than excited, after looking at it. I was looking forward to more quality MMA, but this is a holesy card. I do like Tumenov, Musoke, and Bektic. I'm saying who or meh about a lot of other dudes. I will probably be anticipating it once we hit Saturday.

I mean, I get that the gate in Sweden will be huge, but the Fight Night, this, and Silva/Diaz could have been combined and split into two, and we would have some seriously awesome cards.

Also, even though the names in the 2 and 3 fights are big, I don't really care about those fights. Like regardless of what happens, I'll think the same thing about the fighters involved afterwards.

I should be more excited about Gus vs. Rumble though. I think there's a Road to the Octagon or something similar I should watch.

I heard somewhere that Gus is a 2-1 favorite over Rumble. Somewhat surprising to me, but then again I feel like I think a lot less of Gus than most.

edit: Its actually closer to 3-1. And also, does this site crash every other visit for anyone else? I've had to delete so many posts because the board crashes and double posts all the time now.
