This is the only fight announced. Kind of surprised it's in Australia, but whatever, I love the fight.

I dunno if I'll go. There's something about me that hates the idea of giving the UFC my money considering the last ~year of it's existence, on the other hand omg it's UFC in Melbourne!!

They're going to be expensive as **** also.

I feel the same way about the Fight Night event in Seoul. I really want to go, because it's the **** UFC in Seoul, but I've never really given the UFC any of my money, and it seems like a weird time to start. Plus it will be expensive for something not as good as Lawler vs. Condit.

On a related note, it's Lawler vs. Condit. Looks like a FOTY candidate on paper, if that helps your decision.

UFC 193 gets Michael Bisping vs. Robert Whittaker, looking to get 70,000 through the gates

With UFC 193 now confirmed for for Melbourne's Etihad Stadium, the card is shaping up as well. And it's expected to be the biggest UFC event ever in terms of attendance.

On Wednesday the UFC put out a press release saying that the promotion is expecting to fill Etihad Stadium with over 70,000 people for the Nov. 15 event, which would shatter the existing live attendance record. Right now UFC 129 at The Rogers Centre in Toronto stands as the most attended single UFC event, which did over 55,000 through the turnstiles.

"Finally the UFC is coming to Melbourne in what will be the biggest UFC event ever," UFC president Dana White said in the release. "There's been a lot of talk about Melbourne, title fights and stadium shows. The UFC is doing all three at the Etihad Stadium in front of 70,000 people. Australian has been an amazing market for the UFC and to thank the Aussies for all their support we are bringing the superstar of the welterweight division, UFC World Champion Robbie Lawler."

Could those two statements be more incongruent? "We're hoping to break attendance records...here's Michael Bisping vs. Robert Whittaker" Huh?

Looks like they also are doing Hunt vs. Big Foot II, and have practically every other Australian on the roster in action. I hope they draw like 20k and it's a huge embarrassment.

Agreed, I hope that glorious schadenfreude washes all over me.

I would guess the Aussies in Australia/Canadians in Canada thing has to do with visas mostly, not that it'll have any measurable affect on gates and revenue.

Still asinine how they're handling Lawler.

They got 17,000 (sell-out) at UFC 110 in Sydney with Cain, Big Nog, Wanderlei and Bisping on the card. I'd be **** shocked if they did 70k down here. We've been waiting for a while since cage fighting was illegal up until fairly recently so I could imagine 30-40 but 70 would be ridiculous.

What were ticket prices like for that one though? They'll no doubt be lots of low cost (or relatively low cost) tickets for this one.

They were pretty pricey, I think my brother paid $140 and his weren't particularly good seats. That's partially my worry about going, I don't want to pay $80+ and be sitting there watching the screen because the cage is too far away.

Rousey moved here, Condit/Lawler off the event.

Wasn't there a paper that said Rousey was coming here and everyone laughed at them?

Will probably help them fill the place, but if I was planning to go, I'd be disappointed.

Yeah this is ****. I'm not paying $100+ for a 10 second main event

Yeah I considered coming down to Etihad Stadium to watch a WAR but now that it's Honda/Holm main event, I don't think I'll make the trip down. It'll be a mauling

Wait wtf Joanna is fighting Letourneau here? What happened to Gadelha? That is so disappointing.

Not competitive.

Gadelha is injured apparently, ie UFC didn't want to risk Gadelha being ready so they went with Letourneau.

Finished watching the Go Big event and Holm doesn't sound all that confident. She's surprised she got the shot and it sounds like there's some hesitation and made up bravado in her words.

Well now she's on a four fight winning streak (3 in the UFC) after her loss to Gadelha.

True but she lost to Roxanne Modaferri.
