UFC Fight Night 80 (Dec 10): PVZ vs Rose - Fightpass

Post#1 » by REDDzone » Wed Oct 28, 2015 10:02 pm

Rose Namajunas vs. Paige VanZant
Sage Northcutt vs. Cody Pfister
Michael Chiesa vs. Jim Miller
Thiago “Marreta” Santos vs. Elias Theodorou
Kevin Casey vs. Antonio Carlos Junior
Omari Akhmedov vs. Lyman Good
John Howard vs. Tim Means
Santiago Ponzinibbio vs. Andreas Stahl
Michael Graves vs. Danny Roberts
Phillipe Nover vs. Zubaira Tukhugov
Kailin Curran vs. Emily Kagan
Johnny Eduardo vs. Aljamain Sterling

It was originally Calderwood vs PVZ. This is a much harder fight, PVZ would have styled on Calderwood on the ground imo.

Anyway, this actually has several fighters I'm interested in up and down this card, in stark contrast the fightpass event this past weekend. PVZ/Rose/Sage/Elias/Means/Sterling

First off, that Ireland event was very good. You all missed some cool performances. Like that Tristar guy, Breese. The future. Weidman or Rory-style at 170. Tristar proving they're the best program in the sport now.

Missed it. You suck.

Second, this is also a card with some excellent combinations of fighters. Very good matches. A lot of veteran dudes matched up.

Glad to see Sterling isn't blackballed.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

I watched the main event because I like Smolka, won't be watching the rest.

Makes zero sense to me why they would put Sage on a Fight Pass card. This kid clearly has star potential, why not put him on cards people will actually see?

They boned Sterling much more by putting him on a Fight Pass. I agree Sage should be showcased more, but at least Sterling has paid dues. Also gave him a relatively low profile fight. Let him make Caraway look slow on FS1. I'm going to have to stretch a bit so I can ride both the Sterling and Sage hype trains to this event. Definitely some fights worth finding a stream for. Chiesa-Miller should be a barnburner.

Rose just pwned PVZ by shaving her head.

I get the statement and all, but really she pwned herself. She's out of her mind/ignoring reality if she thinks that UFC only wants her for her fighting skills.

(not saying bald isn't beautiful, just that bald isn't beautiful to the meatheads that make decisions that could put millions in her pocket)

Do you know about PVZ vowing to shave her head and then going back on it? Or do you think she just did it because 'its not a beauty contest'? Its mindgames.

I just can't see PVZ winning this fight despite being the favorite. Especially if its five rounds. PVZ said she was nervous for her last one because she was facing a purple belt. IDK what rank Rose is, but she is relentless at attacking submissions.

An issue for me is people act like Rose is the experienced vet, but she's only had 5 fights, and (with respect to Angela Hill and Emily Kagan) she hasn't beaten anyone that is UFC level. Well, unless you count the TUF run, which is also 3 more fights for her. I favor Rose a little, and I guess that this is just where women's MMA is at, but this is basically prospect vs. prospect. Also wonder if PVZ is stronger than her and if Rose is ready for that. Then again PVZ has been winning mostly by cardio, simply out-working fighters, so you wouldn't expect that to work here necessarily.

You're mostly preaching to the choir there, I didn't buy into all the Rose hype during her tuf run. That said, I don't see how you can discount the tuf run considering she was finishing those fights. Winning close two round decisions is one thing, but she subbed Calderwood and Randa which is honestly more impressive that anything PVZ has done.

I'm rooting for PVZ but stylistically I favor Rose.

Didn't mean to, I had actually forgotten about TUF (that she had beat some decent people), had to go back in put it in.

Theodorou screwed himself with all those takedown attempts.

His posture was just terrible on some of those single legs. Just terrible. My stream is laggy but I can only assume he was super gassed.

I said eff it because too much lag, but my twitter feed just exploded because apparently Sage got taken down and was getting controlled and then there was a super sketchy standup by the ref.

wwe sh*t.

Rose stepped up to the plate and dominated. That was a mauling.

PvZ earned my respect though. Can't question her heart. She hung in there like a true warrior.

PVZ fate was sealed when Calderwood dropped out. Huge difference in Rose vs Joanne imo.
