Cotto shouldn't even be sanctioned to fight someone this vicious. I hope I'm wrong but I feel like this is going to be a murder.

I'm giving Cotto more of a chance than you are because I do think he is definitely one of the best fighters Canelo Alvarez will have fought to date, but I still favor Alvarez in this fight. Naturally stronger guy who can throw good combos. Problem is that he's sometimes not active enough in the ring, not someone who likes to throw a lot. Cotto can take advantage in spots if he's aggressive enough, and with Roach he has been, especially to the body. I think Cotto has some good success early but Canelo takes his time and punishes him as the fight goes on. Possibly late stoppage, most likely UD for Canelo. Good, solid fight imo...becomes great if Cotto shows that he is quite able to hang with the much younger fighter deep into the fight.

Miguel Cotto Does Not Have The Skillset Required To Beat Canelo

In order to have success against Canelo his opponents have to put constant pressure on him during the first 1:30-2 minutes of a round since Canelo uses this time to regain the energy that he has lost in the previous round due to all power punches thrown. His opponents put constant pressure on him by throwing their jab and secondary punch i.e. hook, uppercut or overhand. This force Canelo to spend energy covering up as a result this will diminish the attack that he will put forth in the final minute of rounds which is started by his left jab and his right hand secondary punches i.e. hook, uppercut or overhand followed up by body shots.

During the final minute of rounds, his opponents have to constantly be on their bicycle that means evading his punches to make sure he doesn’t steal the round or seriously hurt them. Some aspects of this game plan don’t fit Miguel cotto’s fighting style as Cotto can put constant pressure on Canelo by throwing his left jab and secondary punch i.e. left or right hook. But where the problem lies for Cotto is that he doesn’t try to evade punches to make sure Canelo doesn’t steal the round or seriously hurt him. Instead Cotto likes to stand in the pocket and trade punches which is right up Canelo alley

I had Canelo winning too, but 1-3 rounds to Cotto from the judges? Come on!

Miura Vargas was the dopest fight I've seen in years, wasn't just some toughman crap where no skilled guys slug it out.

Two quality skilled guys having a brutal fight

Solid fight, which is what I thought it would be in the earlier post. Cotto did well early on but Canelo's power shots took over in the middle of the fight, they had an impact on Cotto w/o question. Cotto boxed well, yet just couldn't hurt Canelo at all. There has been some mixed reporting as to whether or not Alvarez is open to facing Golovkin (catchweight being a possible main issue), I really do hope it happens. It doesn't have to happen right away in early 2016 but it would be great if it did happen sometime next year.

Undercard was very good, with the exception of the obvious. Miura/Vargas was one of the best fights this year. Hard shots being thrown with bad intentions throughout the fight. Tremendous comeback by Vargas, he looked done in the previous round but he came out with a fury, most likely thinking that he didn't have much left to continue the fight. Awesome stuff. Big ups to Miura as well, he got hurt bad in round 1, recovered, and did a lot of damage to Vargas. Rios/Velez was a nice appetizer to start the card.

It's simple. Cotto is 35 and has been through wars. People made too much off his recent wins with Freddie, which in hindsight weren't as impressive as they seemed. He was also facing a younger, bigger and stronger fighter that's entering his prime.

And the fight with Miura and Vargas was awesome. They need to rematch.

I never want to watch Rigo fight ever again. Sweet science be damned, that was not entertaining. He should be finishing off a fighter like that.

It was a useless fight. Cotto had no chance to do anything but survive. Could not possibly win. The question was how bad of a beating.

That was about as well as could be expected, in fact. The worst blows to his body & made it to 12 on his feet.

It's just that people were kind of surprised at how Cotto looked in this fight. That he didn't look the same, that he didn't have the same bounce. Cotto looked fine in the first couple of rounds. But the moment he started absorbing some shots, it started to slow him down. He really didn't have much of a chance against a younger and stronger fighter. His wins over Rodriguez, Martinez and Geale weren't very impressive in hindsight. Especially the one over Sergio. Freddie brought him back after that Trout loss, but in reality people shouldn't be surprised at a 35 year old, looking like a 35 year old.
