UFC 198 (5/14): Werdum vs. Miocic

Post#1 » by Jasen777 » Thu Mar 17, 2016 4:08 am

Wiki has:

Fabrício Werdum vs. Stipe Miocic
Ronaldo Souza vs. Vitor Belfort
Maurício Rua vs. Corey Anderson
Demian Maia vs. Matt Brown
Patrick Cummins vs. Antônio Rogério Nogueira
Warlley Alves vs. Bryan Barberena
Francisco Trinaldo vs. Yancy Medeiros
Thiago Santos vs. Nate Marquardt
Sérgio Moraes vs. Kamaru Usman
Renato Moicano vs. Zubaira Tukhugov

Might be adding Anderson Silva vs. Uriah Hall and Cyborg vs. somebody. Wonder who gets bumped off the main card.

Yeah, this is a great card. especially if they add those two fights.

Maia/Brown... I love it. CPT brought up a great point after the Diego/Miller fight regarding brawlers and how when we say their best offensive skill is pace/cardio, or whatever, they're only competitive until their chin/gut goes. Diego is on one side of the spectrum, Brown's midsection is on another. But is Maia the guy to crumple him?

Get those two rumoured fights on and throw that LHW garbage on the prelims and we're talking.

Maia vs. Brown is awesome. I think Maia schools him, but it should be interesting to see.

God I didn't even notice that the first time. Lil Nog still fights?

Brendan Schaub told me that Cummins is a great prospect though. He's 35, but could easily win the title by the time he's mid 40s imo.

3-4 dudes here I really don't want to see lose / to strikes. Like, really. Shogun, top 3 most damaged fighters in mma history. If not, #1.

Silva vs Hall official. Actually kind of shocked to see Anderson fighting someone without a name. I'm not an Anderson fan but it'd be sad to see Hall catch him, at least for me.

yeah lol Silva cant be putting his hands down and stand against the cage against hall cuz one vicious kick or punch from that guy will end Silva in a heart beat.

Anderson Silva vs. The Next Anderson Silva?

Maybe the next (40 year old version of) Anderson Silva?

I actually dig it, but yeah, would be sad if Silva loses, and even if he wins...he beat Uriah Hall. Cool man. If he loses though, god damn, 0-4-1 in his final (would have to be?) five fights. Even Fedor didn't go out that badly.

Hall should be too quick and too powerful for Silva at this point in his career, but you can never trust him to deliver.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't Hall a counter puncher as well?
I could see this being a snoozer, with neither wanting to be the first to engage.

Cyborg confirmed, Leslie Smith the chosen victim (disappointing opponent IMO).

This whole thing has been so miserably handled by both the ufc and Cyborg.

First off, Smith is a 125er who is a bantamweight by default who is basically a .500 fighter. Why would anyone be excited about this? She's a lamb to slaughter here. She seriously probably walks at 140, while some rumors put Cyborg at 165+ these days.

Also, Cyborg is willing to cut to 140 to fight someone that none of us would recognize walking through the airport, but she refused to cut to 135 to fight Ronda is possibly the biggest fight ever? I'm not one of these guys pressuring people to cut too much weight. I like to think I somewhat understand the consequences and dangers of that, so I don't advocate it. But if 135 is a life risking weight to reach, then 140 certainly isn't something that should be done lightly, especially against someone like Leslie Smith.

Is it confirmed at 140? 164 is her fighting weight after rehydration. 2 days after a fight she was at 175, which is probably the low end of her "walking" weight. Even 145 seems like a big cut for her. It is really a shame she's finally fighting in the UFC and it's basically the level of fighter she has been facing. Her vs. Rousey before the Holm lost was the fight to make obviously, but the UFC was set on protecting Rousey (and Rousey wasn't interested probably) which didn't work out. But they could at least have Cyborg fighting someone like Zingano.

I've read Cyborg at 175 but didn't want people to think I was exaggerating so I played it conservative. Also, yea my understanding was its for sure at 140. If she's fighting flyweight Smith at featherweight, that's an event bigger travesty. If this fight is competitive, its because Cyborg is on her deathbed from the weight cut.

I mean she's basically the weight of guys like Pettis right?

Obligatory...

Granted she looks smaller next to Werdum.

So I know we've had some big upsets recently, and that MMA is unpredictable, and I wouldn't bet this line, but I'm still a little surprised that Cyborg is only -1300.

She's the Tito of WMMA when it comes to size of her head.
