UFC 200: DC/Silva, Lesnar/Hunt, Aldo/Edgar II, Tate/Nunes

Post#1 » by REDDzone » Fri Mar 18, 2016 4:33 pm

Champ Daniel Cormier vs. interim champ Jon Jones – light-heavyweight title-unification bout
Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar – for interim featherweight title
Champ Miesha Tate vs. Amanda Nunes – for women’s bantawmeight title
Travis Browne vs. Cain Velasquez
Kelvin Gastelum vs. Johny Hendricks
Derek Brunson vs. Gegard Mousasi
Joe Lauzon vs. Diego Sanchez
Enrique Marin vs. Sage Northcutt
Takanori Gomi vs. Jim Miller
Julianna Pena vs. Cat Zingano

Not confirmed yet I don't think, but in the works.

Ariel has been hinting at this from the start and as usual it seems like he is right on the money.

Sorry Frankie.

Its not my first choice and probably not even my second.

I'd be lying through my teeth if I said I'm not going to watch though...regardless of what else is on the card.

Further proof that the UFC is all about raking in the cash. They know if Conor loses to Frankie at UFC 200, their cash cow will be no more. This way Conor will still be the FW champ (even if he loses to Nate again). However, if he does lose to Nate again, then Conor will take a big hit. Stupid matchmaking at its finest. Sucks for the FW division. Sucks for Edgar and Aldo.

At what weight class though? That's the question.

Its not a question in my mind that they'll do 155.

Ok, good.
I have no interest seeing Conor at 170 for a long time.

Reading on twitter, i am reading that the fight will be at 170, and not 155. At 170, this fight makes no sense again. Still would have liked Edgar vs. Conor. I have no doubt that Edgar can beat Conor, and the UFC knows it. Still want to protect their cash cow. Edgar would put Conor on his back like 5 foot 5 Mendes did. Difference is that Edgar has the gas tank to go all 5 rounds. UFC knows this. That is why Conor's own trainer suggested an Aldo rematch instead of Edgar.

If Connor paces himself he can win against Diaz. If he comes out trying to knock him out and wasting all his energy in the first round, he will get hit once and start to buckle and its over. Its a good rematch. Perfect fight.

I honestly assumed 155 because I didn't think ufc would be this incompetent. YTF would you make a welterweight fight between two true lightweights?

Also, Nate Diaz rolled off the beach in Cabo and finished Conor within two rounds on 10 days notice at 170. WTF is the logic in thinking he won't do it again? At least the change in weight class could allow us to ask some questions...Will Nate's chin hold up at 155? Will Conor be quicker at 155? etc.

I'll believe they're doing 170 when its officially announced. Can't imagine they'd do something so dumb as to schedule another WW fight for Conor. Also, that dude puts on any more muscle then his move from 145 won't necessarily be a voluntary one. I'm already skeptical he can get back down there in a healthy manner (or that he ever even was doing so).

I agree with you. However, i do think it will be 170, because if Conor loses to Nate at 155, then his plan of fighting for the LW title in the forseeable future will be gone as well. Such stupid booking, it is unreal. They could always make this fight later on. Bottom line is both Conor and the UFC know, if Edgar beats Conor at UFC 200, their cash cow will be no more. This way if Conor loses, he can still be champ. Like Edgar says "the C in UFC stands for Conor".

If he can't beat bottom of the top 10 LW Nate Diaz at 155, then he should never get a shot at the LW title anyway. That's why I never think someone should get a title fight at a weight class they haven't fought in. Winning a title is way, way easier than earning a title shot, winning a title, and then holding that title.

This is dumb. A second consecutive loss to Diaz will hurt Conor as much or more than a loss vs. Edgar, Aldo, or anyone IMO.

He's also holding up the FW division.

Cain Velasquez vs. Travis Browne and Gegard Mousasi vs. Derek Brunson have been kicking around for UFC 200 the past few days, but I didn't bother making a thread because those were too underwhelming.

Not like Cain vs. Browne is actually gonna happen anyway.

Well this is stupid, so **** stupid.

But surely they have to make him vacate the FW belt?

Nate really threw a wrench into the UFC's plans. As insane as that instant rematch is from a competitive perspective (has to be the worst ever), they probably feel like they have no choice.

I remember Ariel saying after the event that a top ufc official came up to him, shook his head and said "the best laid plans of mice and men...".

Just came here to talk about my boy Mousasi,

I have been waiting for the Brunson fight for quite some time now. I knew Dana was going to give Brunson a fight with a top middleweight to see if he is a legit contender, Mousasi was the perfect opponent after his recent win. It's going to be a tough match up, but I can't wait, I think if Mousasi manages to win this fight, he'll be right in line for the top 5 fight he has been seeking. UFC can't keep giving him fights with lower ranked opponents.
