That's a pretty interesting undercard.

I still can't believe Stipe is champ.

Not really into this card, to be honest.

The combination of heavyweights, CM Punk, and Faber should not be a PPV.

Ohio commission explains licensing of CM Punk by comparing him to Brock Lesnar

According to an issue first raised by Combat Sports Law, Ohio Administrative Code 3773-7-20(E) requires a fighter seeking licensure in Ohio to have at least five amateur bouts and a winning record in those contests. However, a fighter "may appeal to the executive director or Ohio athletic commission to have this waived."

Requirements for licensure can vary widely state to state. However, Brooks, who has no competitive athletic background or any amateur fights, would need that requirement waived in order to obtain a license.

Bernie Profato, Executive Director of the Ohio Athletic Commission, explained to MMA Fighting on Tuesday the reasoning behind granting Brooks a license despite no fighting background, which rests on two separate grounds.

"CM Punk has a wrestling background similar to Brock Lesner being permitted to fight in the past," Profato said....

"There was also confidence in the matchmaker from the UFC and the past bouts he has submitted in previous UFC events in Ohio," Profato argued.

Should have just been like, "he's going to make us money".

I can actually buy the confidence in the promoter aspect of it. Should have left it at that. The whole "he has a wrestling background similar to Brock Lesnar" is just the lulz.

It's not just any heavyweights though. There's a title fight and 4 of the best HWs are on this card. I'm not saying it's the greatest card, but we've had a lot worse PPVs.

I'm interested in the main event, but that division just doesn't produce a lot of great fights. And they're being supported by a guy I've seen fight too much (that could just be me) and a guy who may never be allowed to fight again. It's probably going to do relatively well from a $$$ standpoint, though.

I hope Punk can someway somehow make it competitive. It would just be so awkward to go out there and be smashed. They should have him fighting the dude who lost to Mickey Gall instead.

That would probably be a more competitive fight. I hope Gall does finish him early to avoid anything approaching a Kimbo-Dada situation (though, to be fair, I don't think it could possibly be that bad) where the lack of skills becomes way too obvious.

I hope Gall doesn't finish him early and we can see a real fight, as we usually hope for. It's not going to be a Dada-Kimbo situation. Punk is 100 lbs lighter and has gotten in shape, training the last 18 months or so. And if Punk is getting beaten down, it's on the ref and his coaches to stop it. Although given Duke's m.o., I don't think we can count on the latter doing the job.

But I am concerned that this will indeed be a one-sided beatdown in favor of Gall. I mean he's probably more technical and pretty athletically talented, which Punk is not. Going to have to stay poised somehow in his debut and be crafty to hang in there. If he wins, you figure he capitalized in a moment, i.e.: Tate vs. Holm. You know how crazy and compelling this is going to be if Punk is competitive and the fight lasts for a while? It would be great for drama, entertainment, and the sport in general. Think it's more likely not to be the case, however.

RZ, you better believe it now -

Punk was facing off with Dana there. That I'd be interested in.

The two HW fights make the card tolerable. Overeem has really improved since going to Jackson-wink.

Overeem - Miocic
Werdum - Browne
Punk - Gall    would love to see all the hardcore fans in shambles if wins
Faber - Rivera
Calderwood - Andrade
