No you didn't list Big John and Herb Dean.

In reality there is no ref of the year, because the best ones are those we don't notice. So it's hard to single out one. But it's easy to single out the s**tty ones, and the aforementioned guys are included. Big John intensified his meddling tendency and Herb kept on alternating between stoppages that were too late or early.

I narrowed it down to Herzog and Peterson, because I can't remember what either one of them looks like, and that's probably a good thing.

Herzog gets the nod due to (I think) reffing more fights.

Once he becomes high profile, I'm sure he'll be terrible as well.

There is definitely something to this. It seems when you become a name referee, people start to remember every mess up you make. I think Herb Dean is a fine referee, but most here seem to be able to list off every time he's ever stopped a fight too early or two late.

You're being obstinate. Herb and Big John may have at one time been good refs, but Big John let the fame go to his head so he had to make matches about him which is never a good thing for officials in any sport, and Herb either felt too much pressure from the recognition or got in a never-ending cycle of over-correcting based on what he did previously. I've seen a ton of fights from Herzog and Yves; and their frequency and magnitude of mistakes just don't compare. Herb and Big John have indeed become bad refs. Adjust your perception with newer events.
