Where is the fighter's association/union being announced? That was potentially a landmark day for pay and benefits in the sport finally.
That said, I'd still go with the sale to IMG because it came kind of out of nowhere, Zuffa was a fixture, the purchase price was ridiculous, and there was a lot of baggage they had to deal with soon after like the lawsuits and prospective fighter's union.

There is too much unknown and up in the air with the fighters union. If it gains traction, it could easily crack this category next year.

Beat me to it. Ben Henderson was a bigger free agent than Rory.

Is it what was a bigger story to us, individually? Or what was the bigger story in the media?
To me personally, it was the UFC Sale. The media it was Conor anything.

The UFC being sold for 4.2 billion was shocking! - it set up waves of changes to all parties involved and was the reason why so many fighters' associations/organizations have popped up since then. I'm sure fighter's knew there were relatively underpaid vs the UFC but not by that much.
2016 was the year where the fighter's purse were broken with each successive event. Prior to 2015 it just seem unimaginable to make a million dollar purse yet we concluded the year with Rousey making 3m after a 13 month layoff.

The MMMMAAAAAAAA isn't the first fighter association/union attempt. It's likely the most high profile with current fighters but until it gains any traction, I don't think it's as newsworthy as they make it out to be.

UFC? Universal Fitted Clothing? Is that Conor's new company or something?
