UFC 216: El Cucuy vs. Kevin Lee (10/7/17)
Interim lightweight fight just announced. I guess Khabib - COnor might really happen now too?

That would make a mockery out of the interim belt (if Conor came back and fought someone else). So, yes, I guess it'll happen.

Re: UFC 216: El Cucuy vs. Kevin Lee (10/7/17)
I don't get the interim belt being in place for this particular fight if the plan was for Conor to come back and defend it, that's all. An interim title fight with Ferguson and Khabib made sense, but if those two aren't going to fight they might as well have done Ferguson vs. Conor or did this matchup without the belt in place and winner faces Conor regardless. Interim belts are overdone at this point.

Am I wrong in thinking Ferguson really busts Lee up?

I believe Ferguson when he says that Khabib won't accept the fight because he's still not right from his last weight cut. I really do.

On paper I would agree, it'll be interesting to see how it plays out though. Lee has been fighting and improving while Ferguson has been just sitting on the sidelines for what seems like a very long time now.

Again, this is not a main event for a ppv. They really seem to be stretching, and every time the title holder is a little occupied it's for an interim belt to somehow add to the luster. Didn't work very well with Whitaker vs. Romero. Sold close to what you'd think a card with that main event would.

That's the fight I originally wanted to see instead of the Hunt. Hunt was about the worst match-up possible for Lewis. Hard-head, hard to take down, hits hard, small target, more technical, and has endurance.
Werdum I could definitely easily envision Lewis beating because he's a big target, not the toughest guy to hit, doesn't have the best chin, I doubt he'll get Lewis down, is more of a volume hitter, etc. Problem is now, they've killed Lewis' hype. If he won this fight before facing Hunt he could have gotten a title shot instead. He was on a Buster Douglas run, but the UFC killed it with their matchmaking.

Tony being his usual charming self. Hope Kevin Lee smashes him and then styles on him with a 90s R&B outfit at the presser.

Re: UFC 216: El Cucuy vs. Kevin Lee (10/7/17)
^^I didn't myself.
I'd love if people who drop links to other content, especially videos, would give some sort of analysis or reason behind it being worthwhile.
Cuz, for all I know, they're going talk nonsense the entire time. It could be ten minutes one guy describing his shoe being untied and trying to find out the reason, and the other guy having a bad signal on his phone, and just end up utterly, utterly pointless. Some podcasts are somehow less meaningful than that. Then who's going to refund me my time. I'll only listen to that if you promise to give me 100$ as a deposit for it, and if it turns out **** I can keep it, or if the podcast artistes sign an agreement to be slapped by Nate Diaz if it's bull...
I like Ferguson and Lee. Though I think Ferguson kind of picked the fight back when he interviewed Lee after his fight, he's generally pretty cool and more importantly is an excellent fighter who may be one of the most skilled and unique ever. He's really bringing a lot of new stuff to the game and it sucks the UFC doesn't do more to reward that and work with that. I think he may be the P4P best, even though they didn't rank him in the top 15 in UFC P4P.
Whoever wins would embarrass McGregor and hope they get the chance to do so.

I think unless Kevin Lee shows some skills that we literally haven’t seen him exhibit, Tony is going to work him.
Am I missing something with Kevin Lee? I don’t think he’s particularly special as an athlete or a technician.

Re: UFC 216: El Cucuy vs. Kevin Lee (10/7/17)
There are some fights to look forward to on this card, just it has some holes/gaps, and there is no true main event.
In a vacuum, I'm interested in Lee-Ferguson, Lewis-Werdum, Dunham-Dariush, Duquesnoy-Stamman, Lentz-Brooks, and Vannata-Green. I like Vannata, Brooks, Duquesnoy, Dariush, Lewis, and Lee in those.
I think Lee-Ferguson is going to be quite compelling. Ferguson will chase down Lee, but Lee can handle pressure, he'll respond with his own aggression, and they'll both put themselves in danger of being finished to finish. You may be missing that Lee is tenacious himself, well-rounded, more athletic than Ferguson, and can get out of submissions. Should win in the wrestling, get top position, and wail away. He has power, standing and ground. That head kick he put on Trinaldo was sneaky. It will be a barnburner, until it ends, whoever wins and decision or finish.
Secondarily Lewis-Werdum is compelling because while Werdum fights an outside game where he befuddles, he is active and there to be hit often, and Lewis is an opportunist who keeps on coming, albeit methodically. One of those shots should eventually get thru, especially against a 40 year old. And if Black Beast is on top he's making your red belt look like a purple.

I think he's strong, and a great wrestler. I don't think Kevin Lee is particularly athletic. At least, it doesn't translate to his striking at all.

Re: UFC 216: El Cucuy vs. Kevin Lee (10/7/17)
I think Ferguson is better everywhere tbh. That said, as I mentioned before, Ferguson has been sitting on the sidelines and getting jerked around by Khabib for the past year plus while Lee has been getting cage time and imo clearly improving. I wouldn't count him out but still think Tony is the best.
