I saw Ariel talk about this and he made a pretty good point, the PPV dates are already set and they already have championship fights lined up for them. So the UFC was running into 2 different problems.

#1. Having Conor as the main event over a championship fight. They did that before with Nate vs Conor #1, but Conor was already booked on that card to fight for the championship and Nate came in as a late replacement. I believe UFC 255 already has 2 title fights booked for it and UFC 256 has Nunes booked.

#2. Championship fighters get a piece of the PPV money. So you put Conor on 255, you got 3 fights taking PPV points that are loaded up because of Conor. With 256 again Nunes and Megan Anderson would be seeing a big payday as well because they get PPV points as well.

So the UFC really doesnt want to put Conor on a card with a championship bout because they basically waste one championship fight card promotion wise because Conor does all the selling. Then you got paying multiple fights PPV points. So from the UFC point of view, say Conor fights on the 256 card with Nunes. Say it does 1.5 million buys. Theyre losing PPV points to 4 people. But say they push that fight back to January where Conor can headline and no other championship fights are happening, youre still going to get that 1.5 million buys, but only have to dish out PPV points to Conor and Dustin.

Business wise, I can see why the UFC doesnt want to do it this year.

Yeah that’s fair enough. I swear there were two dates available when Connor made the demands but maybe they were filled in behind the scenes.

So many guys not fighting. Leon and wonder boy are going in circles. Porier and Tony were suppose to fight. Tony supported Dustin and he goes off to fight Connor and now that’ll probably fall through.

Feel bad for tony. He was ready to fight. Dude had a crazy winning streak and loses one fight. Still should be held in a higher regard until he’s beaten again.

Edit - Connor just accepted jan 23 but wants to pick the venue.

We don''t know of course, but extremely unlikely Anderson is getting PPV points. Nunes probably is but the terms could be anything.

Megan prob making something like 60/60k to 80/80k to headline a PPV card - and back to 30/30 or something like that when she losses.

Now Leon’s been removed from the ufc rankings due to inactivity. Poor dude. Should have just fought Wonderboy.

How long did they keep Connor ranked?

The Corey Anderson of the 170-pound division. He will go fight Khamzat and get destroyed then the UFC will let him walk and go to Belator with his brother.

Sucks. Feel bad for guys that are good but just aren’t popular. In essence sport should be about who’s best but the ufc is very much entertainment. All sports are but they lean more that way.

I have a hard time feeling bad for Leon. He has done a ton of shooting himself in the foot. He has a long win streak, with some solid wins but no wow wins on it. He is a pretty boring fighter and for some reason, he started acting like he was a champ or this big name that got to sit back and pick and choose his opponents. If youre a boring fighter that the public doesnt care about and continue to turn down fights, it's only a matter of time before you get left behind. That is just part of the business and Leon played the business side as bad as anyone could.

That also doesn't include publicly turning down Wonderboy.

Dana says there’s a deal in place between Leon and Chimaev and now Leon is straight back in the rankings. This is some petty ****.

Edit- deals done for December 19

Conor needs to be a main event on a PPV, this fight doesnt.
