Random Question (Who would you want to have your back in a street fight?)

Post#1 » by Marcus » Thu Oct 11, 2018 11:55 pm

Just a discussion between me and a bud of mines.

Give me the names of some fighters that you would feel comfortable with having with you in a street fight.

Tony Ferg
GameBred Masvidal
Robbie Lawler
Max
Bones

off the top of my head....

who you got?

damn didn't even think about the Diaz bros they would def fight with nfg.

Gegard was forsure on the table because i truly do believe that man is soulless and wouldn't feel anything in regards to the amount of pain he put another human through.

Cain yes. Brock prolly not. Stipe might workout pretty well too. Maybe Francis being there changes some minds too. If it's going down regardless though i want folks that would thrive in a no rules kind of environment. I feel like Brock might fold if someone is big enough to stand with him.

Tim Kennedy has to be #1. The guy is indefatigable about killing...children, women, whomever. He's definitely ok with killing the guy who stepped on your shoe.

Only Diago Sanchez.

He has the perfect technique to handle any street fight or brawl.

I would take Tim Kennedy and Brian Stann. They’ve been trained on how to unarm a man with a gun or a knife, and they’d have an escape plan.

I also think they could deescalate the situation before it pops off. I like this answer

But otherwise I'd have to go heavyweights. Ubereem

I'll refrain from already mentioned fighters...which isn't hard because Anthony Johnson anyone?
I'll take Anthony Johnson, Romero, and Shane Carwin, would just have to make sure we finished the fight within 5 minutes.

Alternatively, if I was going to try and pick some fights, probably Mighty Mouse, Dillashaw, Garbrandt, Bj Penn for the surprise factor.

In a street fight I wouldn't take Chael, even though steroids would be allowed. I think the poorest translation would be wrestling. Things like working on a single or double leg with your back exposed? I think the illegal MMA strikes available to the back would result in people having serious damage... Unless it's one of those "easy going friendly bar street fights".

Have you ever seen normal people fight? Chael KOs fools in the streets as they run directly into his punches throwing ineffective windmills of their own. We are talking about a dude who stumbled a prime Anderson Silva temporarily. Plus Chael walks around at 220+, he isn't going to be shooting panic takedowns on your everyday fat slob.

The OP didn't say fat slobs or we could probably just include anyone in professional fighting at 155 lbs and up. I'm just imagining if it was a fight between guys who have some threat, and then asking which various backgrounds are good or bad when there are no rules? For example, good = steroid use. Bad, maybe wrestling, relatively to it's effectiveness in MMA? I imagine if you are going for some wrestling position there is a lot of risk where MMA-illegal strikes to the back of the head or spine could factor in. If a takedown were stuffed it seems like it could be very dangerous. And I wanted to randomly put down Chael slightly, I don't know why.

My point is that, while Chael isn't a good striker relative to MMA, he has still spent more time boxing than any 50 randoms you walk past on the street COMBINED. Just like how Conor can be mauled by Khabib on the ground in MMA but is still a brown belt and will choke the f*ck out of anyone you see at your local bar or whatever.

Your normal professional athlete (see NBA players) have no idea how to throw a punch. Much less your average American, who as I mentioned before, is a fat slob. Honestly though the fact that you mention in your post that the professional fighter would have to be 155+ shows me that we have vastly different perceptions of the skill gap between mma fighters and randoms on the street.

To continue this crazy conversation, my friend said I'm crazy for my answer on this hypothetical and I want you input.

It's either:
Russian Roulette
3 Minutes in a ring with a prime Mike Tyson and he's trying to kill you

I chose Tyson, but I've trained BJJ/Wrestling for 9+ years now, 6'3", 195lbs. Where do you guys stand on this one?

1 bullet/6 chambers? Maybe the right choice for you. But I'd give Tyson more than 1/6 of hitting you with a lead left. At which point, you're dead.

I am definitely choosing RR...as someone who is 6'1'', 155 pounds, and was recently kimura'd by a grocery bag.
