UFC FN 144 (2/2): Assuncao vs. Moraes, Aldo vs Moicano

Post#1 » by AirCanadaMouse » Sat Feb 2, 2019 12:12 am

Yes I know it’s not the main event but if Aldo wanted to fight 5 rounds it certainly would be, too bad he’s about to retire. And what’s up with him being the underdog? I like Moicano but Aldo is better than him in pretty much all aspects

Bantamweight Raphael Assunção vs. Marlon Moraes
Featherweight José Aldo vs. Renato Moicano
Welterweight Demian Maia vs. Lyman Good
Lightweight Charles Oliveira vs. David Teymur
Light Heavyweight Johnny Walker vs. Justin Ledet
Catchweight (123 lbs) Livia Renata Souza vs. Sarah Frota
Preliminary Card (ESPN+)
Middleweight Markus Perez vs. Anthony Hernandez
Welterweight Thiago Alves vs. Max Griffin
Women's Flyweight Mara Romero Borella vs. Taila Santos
Heavyweight Junior Albini vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik
Bantamweight Geraldo de Freitas Jr. vs. Felipe Colares
Bantamweight Ricardo Ramos vs. Said Nurmagomedov
Catchweight (127 lbs) Rogério Bontorin vs. Magomed Bibulatov

I'm not implying anything. An eye test is unsound and unfair to this good sportsman.

Can you imagine the experience of the Thiago on the left? Just feeling like a **** God. Now you're stuck with the psychological, emotional, and hormonal deficit of being the dude on the right?

Why not retire so that you can get back on the gear?

If you have never failed a test, you are for sure clean. That's how it works.

I'd take Moicano at even money over Aldo. He's really impressive to me.

Apparently the Thiago on the right only has to win one round though :D

Alves gifted a decision, knew it would be a robbery as soon as I saw the split coming. Max definitely won round 1 and 3

If some of your guys' eye tests weren't so consistently unreliable maybe we wouldn't have to have these arguments time after time.

Alves is probably the most overt physique change in the sport. It's obvious. Others like Jacare IMO are not definitive, and the Jon Jones physique change claim was just an absolute headscratcher. Hell, I've seen people on this board claim GSP's physique changed.

Glad the ref immediately took points from Teymur for the double eye poke. I believe it was intentional. That said, even if it wasn't, I still think it should be a point deduction. It's possible to unintentionally foul someone in basketball or accidentally pass interfere in football. The ref doesn't pick up the flag because it's not intentional. A double eye poke (that stops someone from a takedown after they catch your kick) affects the fight, without a doubt.

I love Oliveria. Brazilian Cerrone slowly but surely.

That may have been the first fight I ever rooted for him in just because I thought the eye poke was intentional. I never liked him since he mocked Jim Miller two seconds before getting heel hooked (?) Lol. He almost did the same thing tonight, talking sh*t to Teymur less than 2 seconds before getting dropped.

God I love watching Maia do what he does. Kind of hope he goes out on that win. He's not climbing the WW hill again IMO. Didn't take a single punch. Didn't land one either lol.

Moicano winning would undoubtedly be better for the division. I can't root against Jose though.

EDIT: My God this Jose.

TJ should STFU and fight Moraes. I don't care if Grandmaster Sensei "isn't excited by that fight". Moraes has now finished 3 elite fighters at 135 back to back to back. You can't keep him away from a title shot any longer.

UFC really screwed themselves with the Moicano-Aldo and Dillashaw-Cejudo at 135 lb match-ups. Marred a contender and a champion. Now their title fight mystique in those 2 divisions kinda suck.

Speed, mechanically and mentally, was the name of the game tonight. Frankie fast hand barrage by Moraes, double right hook after the left feint, and then snatched that neck right up. And Aldo just swarmed Moicano to the body and head. That was vintage Aldo. You could say vintage Maia and Oliveira too, can't show them your neck momentarily. Also a resurgence for Alves. Great night for Brazilian MMA.

Speaking of Frankie Fast hands, maybe he's the best option for Holloway next now. Hasn't lost to him (although has to Aldo *2).

BTW, can't believe some didn't get the hype from Moraes due to what should have been a typical get me over win vs. Assuncao in his debut. Octagon debut jitters and small samples happen. How long are people going to take to learn?

Moraes has been better in the UFC than he ever was in WSOF imo.

He was a beast in the UFC, wrecking fools with the quick twitch, beating them to the spot footwork-wise, using his punches to set up his high kick, and sprawl to stop td's. You can only beat who you face.
