That’s a waste of money...I know this is MMA, but she legit has zero chance. Don’t even think her coaches buy into that belief that she can win... her striking is so bad that she’s going to get knocked out quite badly tbh.

Edgar would’ve been a better bet. Think Max being a -400 is way too high.

Also this card is terrible, let alone for PPV standards. Glad to see Gavin Tucker back

Meh. Co-main isn't competitive and Edgar doesn't deserve the title fight. The rest is garbage. I'll be skipping this one.

I've had a lot of criticisms of Cyborg over the years, but really, as a fighter, she's technically sound and pretty smart, but she's a physical beast and she's tough as nails with great cardio. You have to have another top tier athlete to put her away, there's just no hope for huge underdogs against her.

There's no real holes for this girl to poke at, and no outlet of outworking, outpacing, or making it an ugly mess of a fight or something.

Frankie has footwork, amazing sparring partners, a really good coach, and one punch power so it's conceivable he gets under some of Max's punches and does some damage. But not likely. Esp if Max is patient and establishes his length. If so, it's going to be sad to watch.

I don't even know how the Cyborg fight is sanctioned. No surprise, Alberta is Canada's Texas / Mississippi / Bama.

Man, Gavin Tucker hasn't fought since he was allowed to take that ridiculous beating against Glenn. Two years ago.

I just hope Frankie doesn't get beat up as badly as Ortega did. And, yeah, prayers for the girl I've never heard of.

I like Frankie but him winning the belt is pretty much worse case scenario. Dude fights about once a year. We have enough champions who sit on the shelf all the time.

I’ve had my eye on Geoff Neal for awhile, I’m glad he’s finally getting some shine. What a fun fight that was, I think he’s a definite future contender and needs a ranked opponent now

I guess we shoulda known that would be a Holloway UD. Frankie is so good moving backwards and laterally, Holloway is quite bad (or doesn't need to bother) at moving any way but forward.

The fact that Max has no ability to throw off his back foot is pretty remarkable. There were a bunch of chances for him to throw hard straights at a charging Frankie and he just didn't, he would just back pedal until out of range and then re-start on his front foot. He can get away without developing that ability, to be fair. But only because of his massive size advantage. Even the joking call-out of Cormier seems in bad faith. His entire repertoire is based on a reach advantage. Even to magically slap 25 pounds of well-balanced muscle on the guy, if he had to fight a 170 pounder, he'd get KTFOd.

I think I was drinking during that card so could well be mis-remembering.

That said, the majority of media scored it 3-2 for Poirier and I recall a few prominent posters here saying they thought Holloway would have won a decision if it wasn't for a big knee landed by Poirier that stole him a pivotal round.

I remember it being somewhere between "really competitive" and "beat the **** out of him." Dustin smashed round one and then Max kind of teased a comeback until Dustin closed the door for good.

Dustin beat him up, got tired from beating him up during which he took some volume from Max but mostly ineffectual, then got a second wind and beat him up a little more. It was pretty evident who the better lightweight is, and not just on that night. I don't think there would be much point in moving back up.

But it doesn't diminish his fw greatness. He's the best imo. When he lost to Conor he was a baby and they were both injury diminished. Comparing to Aldo, he beat him twice, and has a long unblemished run too, more cutting through the prime of that division. When Aldo came up you fw was a fledgling decision. They added it to the UFC in the midst of his run and it took time for fighters to cut down finally.

You can hardly say Max's fw success is just because of reach/footwork (and honestly who cares if it is because he deserves credit then for avoiding td's and absorbing shots in spite of being skinny). He leans on that for periods, but then if he wants to brawl, he wins those exchanges too. Gotta just give Dustin credit for his constant improvement at lw and consider the division a bridge too far for Max.

Would Max would be the favourite against peak Aldo? I saw this argument and a lot of people said max would be betting favourite. Aldo is still the best fighter I’ve ever seen... no one was quicker, more explosive, and with the best TDD ever.

Max beat a very good Aldo, but not the prime Aldo.

Their peak eras are also 6-10 years apart. So peak vs peak runs into the problem of the sport having simply progressed in the intervening period. That's almost a generation, the height of the tide was different. For instance, there was not the same level of cross-pollination in Aldo's era, you stuck with a camp and you implemented their style.

I think Aldo is #1.
