UFC 311 - Islam/Arman, Merab/Umar, Jiri/Hill and more

Post#1 » by Clav » Tue Jan 14, 2025 11:37 pm

UFC's first PPV in '25 is this weekend and should be a really great night of bouts.

full fight card --
Spoiler:
I. Makhachev vs. A. Tsarukyan
155 lbs
M. Dvalishvili vs. U. Nurmagomedov
135 lbs
Jiří Procházka vs. Jamahal Hill
205 lbs
Beneil Dariush vs. Renato Moicano
155 lbs
Kevin Holland vs. R. de Ridder
185 lbs
Bogdan Guskov vs. Billy Elekana
205 lbs
Payton Talbott vs. Raoni Barcelos
135 lbs
J. Almeida vs. Serghei Spivac
265 lbs
Zach Reese vs. Azamat Bekoev
185 lbs
Grant Dawson vs. Diego Ferreira
155 lbs
Karol Rosa vs. Ailín Pérez
135 lbs
Rinya Nakamura vs. Muin Gafurov
135 lbs
Ricky Turcios vs. Benardo Sopaj
135 lbs
T. Ulanbekov vs. C. Carpenter
125 lbs

From the offset should be some explosive fights, and I think by co-main and main event, it will be more technical. Really looking forward to Makhachev's continued dominance, but Tsarukyan is really good, could go either way but Im picking Islam because he's really met every challenge and won. Co-main is Merab v Umar Nurmagomedov, I don't expect Merab to win this, but his way to victory is to wrestle controll and get lots of takedowns. I dont see his striking being dangerous. I don't see how he's going to control Umar because he's a very sharp sambo wrestler too so ya, picking Umar. Basically I don't pick against Khabib's team they just flat out win.

My fave fighter at the moment Jiri Prochazka could get his lights put out against Jamaal Hill but I'm picking Jiri because he's only looked bad against Poatan. I'm gonna be on pins and needles for this one

Further down the card watch out for these fights for KOs or subs...

Guskov - his opponent is short notice and Guskov is a big MF'er that hits hard
Talbott - great striking prospect
Reese - his opponent is also short notice, could be KO1
Ailin Perez - likes to twerk if she wins. some pan it as low-class but she knows what she's doing
Nakamura - Japanese striker undefeated currently
Ulanbekov - another Khabib coached fighter, and I'm gonna lose my pick here bc I picked the other guy "Carpenter" lol

my picks - I look back now and I picked basically a KO or Sub for nearly every fight, oy vay. im reaching....
Spoiler:
Makhachev | KO/TKO | Round 4
Nurmagomedov | Decision
Procházka | KO/TKO | Round 2
Moicano | KO/TKO | Round 2
Holland | KO/TKO | Round 2
Guskov | KO/TKO | Round 1
Talbott | KO/TKO | Round 1
Almeida | Submission | Round 1
Reese | KO/TKO | Round 1
Dawson | KO/TKO | Round 2
Pérez | KO/TKO | Round 2
Nakamura | Decision
Sopaj | Decision
Carpenter | KO/TKO | Round 2

Longo cements himself as the goat.

Merab is actually insane though. Down 2-0 and just literally broke Umar. One of the greatest performances I’ve seen.

**** shame about the main event. Could have topped off a great main card.

Dana said Armand not next anymore. Aint any more interesting fights for Islam at 155 bar that one. Lame.

Hard to see anyone getting a shot against Merab/Islam right now.

Maybe Gaethje if he gets past Hooker but Thats going to cause some damage and Justin might be sitting out for another 6/9 months. that means a year?

Merab, Who? Yan maybe but Merab absolutely destroyed him last time, Bautista would be slaughtered as well

There isn’t anymore interestijg fights for Islam like there wasn’t any left for Jones when he fought Gus… you just never know, repeated defenses tends to bring some crazy results from unexpected challengers.
