Dana must be praying for Liddel to put on a good show and take out Rashad.
The potential for a money maker like Forrest vs Liddel on the New Years card is too good not to drool over.

Really amazing looking! I don't think all of these matches are made for sensational fights, but I'm really interested in how they play out. Hammil, Evans, Kampmann are getting big steps up.

Yoshida is the guy who cleaned-out War Machine a few months back - amazing throw + an anaconda choke. He's a judoka, so vs Parisyan should be interesting. Though it's usually fun to see judo guys against others who have no defense against their throws.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

I like this card.

Liddell vs. Evans is likely going to look like the other Chuck vs. wrestler fights we've seen in the past. It's still a bit interesting though, as Chuck hasn't looked as dominant lately, and Rashad is still undefeated. I'd say the winner gets the next title shot, regardless of who it is.

I'm still a bit confused by Franklin's move to 205. If it's permanent, I guess it makes more sense. It will just suck for him if Anderson Silva moves up as well. I think he should take care of Hamill fairly easily, or Hamill will grind out a boring decision.

Parisyan vs. Yoshida should be good. Karo is still one of my favourite fighters to watch, but like CBR said, it's usually more fun to watch judo guys toss an opponent who has no idea what's going on.

Henderson vs. Palhares is huge. Palhares is another up and coming BJJ guy, similar situation to Demian Maia, and Dan Henderson is Dan **** Henderson. I still think Henderson (with a better gameplan) is the guy with the best chance to beat Anderson Silva at 185, but it's going to be hard to hype that fight up unless Hendo goes on a real tear through the division and earns his shot.

Kampmann vs. Marquardt is another important match in the MW division. A win for Kampmann could put him at or near the front of the line for a title shot, and a win for Marquardt puts him back in the mix, though he seems to be more of a top-level gatekeeper right now. Should be an interesting fight.

I even like some of the prelim fights. Thiago Tavares vs. Kurt Pellegrino could be fight of the night; I really like both of these guys. Tavares needs to rebound in a huge way after losing to Matt friggin Wiman, and Pellegrino is a solid, tough opponent.

I'm interested in Kim Dong-Hyun's fight as well, as he's becoming a fairly big star in Korea, and will be an important figure in the UFC's growth in that country.

Carneiro vs. Chonan is a decent matchup with the potential to be a good fight, and the same goes for Lambert vs. Day. I'm also interested in seeing Boetsch fight again just for the chance he might do another one of those ridiculous throws.

Very good card top to bottom, and I hope we see some finishes so we can see most of the fights.

After Jason Day had to withdraw from his scheduled UFC 88 bout with Jason Lambert due to an injury, another Jason, Jason MacDonald will be stepping in to replace his fellow Albertan. Sherdog.com has the scoop

Possibly a nod to his well-received three-round tilt with Demian Maia at UFC 87 on Aug. 9, Jason MacDonald will be back in action sooner rather than later. The Red Deer, Alberta resident will replace an injured Jason Day against Jason Lambert at UFC 88 “Breakthrough” on Sept. 6 at the Philips Arena in Atlanta.

Cool; I like MacDonald. His match with Maia was one of the funner fights I've seen in a while.

Did UFC pay for the "Countdown" stuff? This is so blatantly a rip-off of HBO's boxing build-ups.

I honestly don't know how long boxing has been doing them, but UFC has been doing these for a while.

Don't act like it's some original concept that needed to be "ripped-off" either.

Obviously not, because I don't really care about boxing.

So when did they start?

What do you mean did they pay for it? It's part of their programming deal with Spike, so no, they're being paid to put it on. They're being paid to market their promotion. Pretty smart, eh?

I hardly think that showing "behind the scenes" stuff for promotion is something that HBO invented. And yes, I've seen HBO's counterpart. It's quite similar. In fact, they're both quite similar to the halftime features the NBA has shown for the last 20 years.

Are you insinuating that it's so bad that they shouldn't have paid for it?

You haven't seen the HBO version.

After DLH-Mayweather, the UFC made a huge stylistic change in their build-up shows towards HBO's, down to the announcer's voice.

It's funny. Laugh.

Yes I have. That's why I said I had. That's usually what I mean when I say things. Otherwise I wouldn't say them. Dig?

A huge stylistic change? That just isn't true. I haven't noticed any change, but there could definitely be some slight difference.

I actually did see the DLH-Mayweather ones, and if that's when they started, then its HBO and boxing ripping off the UFC, not the other way around. But again, it's not like anyone has a copyright on hyping up their events, so really, who cares.

Karo just pulled out of his fight with Yoshida due to injury.

http://mmajunkie.com/news/5216/report-k ... rapped.mma

Just hours before the official weigh-ins for tomorrow night's UFC 88 in Atlanta, a welterweight bout between Karo Parisyan (18-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) and Yoshiyuki Yoshida (10-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has been scrapped.

The official announcement was made on the UFC's official website, citing a "last-minute back injury" that forced Parisyan to withdraw.

A source close to Parisyan told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the fighter "wasn't in the best of shape," but it wasn't clear whether Parisyan's conditioning was a factor in his withdrawal.

Parisyan has been candid with the media in recent weeks about his battle with panic attacks and the effect they have had in his training regimen.

Initial attempts to contact Parisyan by MMAjunkie.com were unsuccessful.

According to UFC.com no replacement will be sought for Parisyan at this time.

****. I was looking forward to that fight.

Hopefully Tavares vs. Pellegrino gets bumped up to the main card.
