EliteXC: Heat, Oct 4 at 9pm on CBS (Kimbo vs. Shamrock)

Post#1 » by CPT » Fri Oct 3, 2008 12:15 am

Well this event is coming up this weekend, and it is really a make or break event for EliteXC. If they don't draw a good rating, they might be done. That being said, I think they will do pretty well with this event. The card has been announced, and here it is, in reverse order.

The full fight card, which includes a six-fight unaired preliminary card, includes:

PRELIMINARY CARD

* Jorge Bouchat vs. Nicolae Cury
* David Gomez vs. Brett Jackowski
* Lorenzo Borgomeo vs. Mikey Gomez
* Seth Petruzelli vs. Aaron Rosa
* Edson Berto vs. Conor Heun
* Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos vs. Yoko Takahashi

MAIN CARD (CBS)

* Benji Radach vs. Murilo "Ninja" Rua
* Gina Carano vs. Kelly Kobold-Gavin
* Andrei Arlovski vs. Roy Nelson
* Champ Jake Shields vs. Paul Daley (for EliteXC welterweight title)
* Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson vs. Ken Shamrock

I don't know if everyone has heard about the Arlovski vs. Nelson fight by this point, but it's interesting that it's on there. I'm not sure what it says about the relationship between Affliction and EliteXC, but it's a win-win for both orgs from where I stand. EliteXC gets another pretty big fight and a guy with name recognition for their make or break card, while Affliction gets some free advertising for their fighters on CBS. If Arlovski wins, I suspect they would set up the Fedor fight that they had originally planned. And he should win convincingly.

Ninja vs. Radach is decent, although I'd actually prefer to see Cyborg's fight on the show. Hopefully we see it anyway.

Looking forward to seeing Gina Carano, as always. The girl she is fighting is supposed to be pretty tough too, but I'm going to assume Carano takes it.

Shields vs. Daley could be good. Shields is a beast, but he's a bit too dominant in EliteXC to have really good fights. Daley's alright, but I think he'll be outclassed here. Taken down and subbed. Let's get Shields in the UFC already.

Kimbo vs. Shamrock. What else is there left to say. It's a complete joke of a main event, but I'm not going to pretend I'm not interested. I'd say there's about a 90% chance Kimbo takes it, including about a 20% chance that Ken is taking a dive. I'm no fan of Shamrock, but I would really like to see him grab one of Kimbo's legs and make him tap. I'm still a bit baffled by the mainstream attention that Kimbo gets, but I suppose it's a necessary evil to get more people watching MMA.

Watching Arlovski puts me to sleep. His fighting style the last several years is better suited for Dancing With The Stars.

And like CPT already said, the main event is a joke. It's pretty clear that Shamrock is a complete joke at this point in his career. And until I see something that proves otherwise, Kimbo Slice is a complete joke. Quick recap of his massive 3-0 record. Fight one: Scrub opponent takes dive by falling down and tapping out before taking a single punch. Fight two: Knocks out an old fat man. Fight three: Couldn't knock out James "Glass Joe" Thompson, a man knocked out by Butterbean. And IMO, Kimbo was losing that fight before Thompson's ear exploded.

How bittersweet would it be for Shamrock to win? He could end his lackluster career on a high note, and kill an organization at the same time.

Too bad it won't happen.

Ken weighed-in at 206. :( Almost 40 lighter than Kimbo.

Oh Jesus Christ, Gina had to take off both bottoms and top to make the weight. I need to rub one out. That was the hottest thing I've ever seen.

Main Card looks pretty solid. I'll call it like this.

Radach over Rua(sorry not a big fan of Ninja)
Carano over Kobold-Gavin
Arlovski over Nelson
Shields over Daley
Kimbo over Ken...c'mon you know Elite XC wont let Kimbo lose. If Shamrock finds a way to start winning, they'll fix the fight again.

The World's Most Dangerous Can even weighed in with a shirt on and was 206.5. Poor guy. I wonder how much extra they gave him to shove Kimbo in the pre fight staredown.

Didn't expect to see Shields and Daley jawing at each other like that, but I kinda liked it. Again, I don't trust EliteXC at all, so I feel like it was staged.

Did you see how fast those guys suggested that they get Gina the towel so she could strip down? And what the hell, I thought the whole problem was that they only had one weight class, but Cyborg and Takahashi both weighed in at 148. Gina could make that no problem. Her tits probably weigh 8 pounds.

Shields and Daley jawing at each other at the weigh-ins was awesome.

I support EliteXC. They're giving us Diaz-Alvarez next month.

I support them, I just think they are shady as hell.

I'm sure other orgs do some questionable things for hype and attention as well, but EliteXC just seems to take it too far. I wouldn't even be surprised if the Gina towel drop was staged, lol.

It is pathetic that she can't make weight. She has months to make weight. She prolly had to donate blood to get rid of the extra lb. She has no respect for the sport if she can't make the contract weight. It goes for all fighters. If you can't make weight, go up a division where you can comfortably make weight.

Via the bloody elbow

Kimbo Slice vs. Ken Shamrock is officially off as Ken has managed to injure himself hours before the fight. EXC reps are trying to replace Ken with Seth Petruzelli but Kimbo's people have yet to accept the replacement. Rock and a hard place here as Seth stands about 1303% better chance of winning than Shamrock did...but if Kimbo doesn't end up taking the fight he looks like a bit of a punk in light of his "anyone, anywhere" talk and reputation.

Edit... update...

Final Update: Kimbo Slice VS. Seth Petruzelli tonight. 100%

I say Slice gets beaten...

If Kimbo loses to a last minute replacement, LMAO. He should stop fighting, EliteXC should just fold.

Whatever.

It can be lot tougher for some women. Fat or water weight. One of my MT instructors has trouble too - gets a buddha belly when not strict dieting + daily running and has trouble getting rid of water. She's nonetheless tough as nails and always in great fitness.

This is sick.
I wish Frank would have fought. Frank would have schooled him.

But Seth will win. This is going to make Kimbo a walking joke.

"The most incredible victory in the history of mixed martial arts!!!"

Whatever dude, Kimbo looked defeated on the ramp. He knew his time was up.
