Shamrock Vs. Shamrock Signed, Will Happen In 2009
Date Added: October 19, 2008
Story By: Will Hengelbrok

The following quotes are from an article on ESPN.com that has Frank and Ken Shamrock stating that they will be fighting each other sometime in 2009. Although it has been a rumor for some time now this makes it official:

"We've both signed a contract to fight each other," younger brother Frank Shamrock told ESPN.com. "Ken is down with it. We talked about it two years ago, and we've agreed materially to fight."

"Will the fight happen? Absolutely," Ken Shamrock told ESPN.com. "He's got a buttkicking coming to him. Everything I've learned, everything I have bottled up in me, is going to come out on him. I've still got love for Frank, but I'm angry at him."

i guess this will have to be on an Affliction card, because I know zuffa won't have this joke fight on a UFC card. I don't want to pay to see Frank completely destroy his brother (who was never good in mma even back in the day). Frank has earned his legacy, Ken Shamrock's is built off wins against bas Rutten when Bas didn't know what submissions were, and off of professional wrestling.

File this under novelty act. I thought EliteXC went out of business.

Affliction should host it.
As much of a novelty act as it is, it will gain some interest at least, and they need to a lot to garner some interest.

Kimbo might not be a bad idea for them either. Feed him to Fedor while Fedor waits for Randy.
Just show the world how out classed a guy like Kimbo is

Ken weighed in at like 203 for the kimbo fight. Frank fights at 185. Frank could weigh in at 186, and they could fight at LHW. Or Ken could easily make the cut to 185 or 195.

Well this was supposed to be in EliteXC, but maybe it will end up in Affliction or Strikeforce.

As much as it's a terrible fight that's all hype, I'd like to see it in Strikeforce. They deserve another big show.

Strikeforce has managed to be the only other MMA org in North America to turn a profit by making smart fiscal decisions. Handing out blank checks to the Shamrock bros would not be a good idea. They should stick with Cung. He doesn't get paid insane amounts of money, is very exciting, and guarantees a sell-out bc of his huge following in the San Jose area.

I hope to see the UFC co-promote with them and bring Cung over to fight some top competition. There is no reason not to copromote with Strikeforce, because they have stated their intentions of sticking to the Pacific coast, and no where else.

UFC would never co-promote with Strikeforce, they have no incentive to do so. Silva, Hendo, Marquart, Bisping, Filho, Okami, Palhares...just a partial list of UFC guys who would put Cung on his back and pound him into the ground. Cung is way overrated based on beating a washed up Frank Shamrock who has such knee problems he couldn't even take him to the ground.

I agree. Cung le is vastly overrated.

What is with all these freakshow fights in MMA? Lesnar/Couture, Shamrock/Shamrock, Kimbo/Shamrock, HMC/Fedor.

I like the MMA freakshow fight - yeah its a gimmick - but it goes to show you they're running out of ideas already.

I for one, wouldn't mind seeing a Shamrock vs. Shamrock fight. I was generally looking forward to Shamrock vs. Kimbo (I thought Ken was gonna put Kimbo in a bodybag, but the pink haired wonder did it instead) - we might be in for a treat. Hell its gotta be better than the last EliteXC card, the fight of the night was Gina Carraro or whatever her name is, that sexy lil broad!!

nobody in the UFC could put Cung on his back that is currently in the MW division besides Marquardt and Okami. Sonnen too, but he is irrelevant because he would eventually get KO'd. Cung has been wrestling his entire life including in college, and Sanshou involves throws and being able to prevent yourself from being taken down. Please refrain from making blanket false generalizations.

And Frank does not have an injured knee. He likes to pretend that he has no ACL, but these are just the excuses he uses to protect his fragile legacy. There is a reason Cung has never been taken down in MMA, because it is too difficult to do so. Machida uses the same martial art techniques Cung uses to avoid takedowns. Frank tried 3 times to take Cung down, and ate a Knee each time, as would any fighter attempting to take Cung down. Also you have to realize that Cung will just chop down his opponents legs with his vicious kicks and no one will be able to take him down. You can't block his kicks or try to catch them, he will break you in half. You have to avoid him, and with the speed of his kicks, and the quickness at which he fires them off, it is pretty hard to do so. Anderson in no way would be able to beat him on the feet, he would have to pull guard or hope to outlast Cung and wait for him to gas.

Bisping, who is from England and a terrible wrestler as someone who would take Cung down is laughable. Or the inclusion of Anderson Silva as someone who would take him down. Cung has an iron chin and would be a problem for anyone in the UFC besides Marquardt who would probably walk through him just due to the huge size difference.
