WEC 36 - Nov 4th

Post#1 » by cowboyronnie » Wed Oct 29, 2008 11:50 am

No idea why Maeda vs Yayha is on the prelim card. That ought to make the main card of most UFCs... Shooto champ coming off an amazing performance against an exotic sub wrestler (and an obnoxious assh*** at that) - sweet!

Maanwhile, who the hell is Roshold/Villefort?

Oh well.

I'm super excited for the Filho vs Sonnen re-match. Winner should be bumped to the UFC.

Main Bouts:

Donald Cerrone vs. Rob McCullough
Jake Roshold vs. Danillo Villefort
Lenard Garcia vs. Jens Pulver
Chael Sonnen vs. Paulo Filho (WEC Middleweight Champion)
Mike Brown vs. Urijah Faber (WEC Featherweight Champion)

Preliminary Bouts:

Yoshiro Maeda vs. Rani Yayha
Danny Castillo vs. Ed Ratcliff
Alex Schoenauer vs. Steve Steinbeiss
Jose Aldo vs. Jonathan Brookins
David Avellan vs. Aaron Simpson
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

Kickass.

I was bummed when this card got cancelled back in September, but it had kind of slipped my mind until now.

Pulver vs. Garcia and Maeda vs. Yahya should be great, and the top two fights look really good as well.

Is this the last card before they fold the higher weight classes into the UFC?

This is going to be a great card. While I agree the Maeda vs. Yayha fight should be on the main card, I want to see Rosholt. If you don't know Jake Rosholt now, you will soon. He is one of the best young fighters in MMA. He was a national champion wrestler at Oklahoma State (I think) and has run through everyone he has fought so far. I was very impressed when I saw him fight and I think he has future champ written all over him.

A little more info on Jake Rosholt. He is a 3 time national champion at Oklahoma State and a 4 time all american. He trains with Xtreme Couture and reportedly can take Randy Couture down with ease despite being like 30 pounds lighter. He will get this one WEC fight and then reportedly is off to the UFC for a January date with someone like Leben, Cote, or Belcher.

Looks like the future is coming quicker than expected.

This actually is going down on 11/5 not the 4th, and this card is very nice looking. I am hopeing there are some quick KO's so we can catch the Maeda/Yaha. I've been training with Steinbeiss the past couple of months and he's the homie, so I hope I can see him and Aaron Simpson fight too.

Paulo Filho just weighted in at 192, a whole 7 pounds over the 185 bout weight. Sonnen sis saying he won't fight at a catch weight and Filho has 2 hours to lose 7 pounds. Good luck with that.

Craziness.

Yahya missed weight by a pound but Maeda said he is cool with a catch weight fight.

WOW!!!I wonder what plan B is if Paulo cant make weight, 7 lbs over is very unprofessional, he doesnt even deserve to fight on that card.

Apparently now it is a 3 round non-title fight between Sonnen and Filho. Filho is saying though that he will give Sonnen the belt if he wins.

He should be stripped of the belt, not that it matter because after this card the 185 pound division is gone from WEC anyways.

Strange night of fights. Pulver and Faber both get KOed in the 1st round. Fliho would rather talk to his imaginary friend than fight. Rosholt looks green but gets a nice win. The best 2 fights do not even get aired between Maeda/Yahya and Cerrone/Razor Rob. The Cerrone/Rob fight being oddly absent considering Cerrone I believe earned a title fight and a date with Jamie Varner with the win.

Weird card.

I haven't seen the card yet, but I accidentally found out what happened. Is it still worth downloading to watch?

Something is very wrong with Filho. I wonder if he's done fighting.

Brown is huge for 145. He is like the GSP of the Featherweight division. It is worth downloading, if only to see Faber get KOed. Not a great card, but a decent one with crazy things happening.

Filho is a disgrace. Thats all i can really say about him. 7 pounds is inexcusable.

His performance is more inexcusable than his weight. Filho very likely cost himself a chance in the UFC.

Pulver was talking real arrogantly before that. Hall Of Fame?? Beating Penn once, and, like, John Lewis, is not HOF material. His past 3 years have been humiliating.

Jesus was Garcia ever swinging!!

Filho looks gross. Just starting that fight...

The WEC holds-on to undercard fights for later Versus broadcast, right? I want to see Yahya vs Maeda.

I have always hated Filho. He was the epitome of a paper champion. He feasted on average guys in Pride and bulked up a nice record while never fighting anyone close to top 10. The fact that people had him rated ahead of Franklin and Henderson at 185 is a huge joke.
