Middleweight Chris (The Crippler) Leben has been suspended for nine months after testing positive for the anabolic steroid stanozolol following his main event loss to Michael (The Count) Bisping at UFC 89 last month in Birmingham, England.

In addition to the suspension, the 28-year-old American must forfeit one-third of his purse.

How does testing work in the UFC, is it only after fights?

Is it a danger for guys who take fights on short notice, maybe they do some while training and then stop a period of time before they fight?

Don't know much about how the juice works...

Isn't it interesting that the ones who get caught are almost always the same ones who lose?

Leben was and still is the perfect stepping stone for anyone to make it big. I think UFC should keep him for that same reason :P .

I could be wrong, but I think the testing was done, and the suspension given out by, UFC/Zuffa themselves. It's not the usual situation where the state athletic commissions do the testing like in the states. I'm not sure if England tests (I'm pretty sure they don't), so maybe the UFC thought they would catch a few cheaters who thought they wouldn't be tested.

That sucks for Leban. I kinda like him.
He'll never be anything, but like previously said, he's a good stepping stone, middle card guy.

The roids sure didn't help him any.

Like someone says he's a good gauge to come into the UFC and give those guys dolling out the cash an idea of how a fighter will do. Clearly Chris had other idea's and wants to "step it up", but clearly cant do it without a little bit of naughty help.

Its a shame to see him do it, I used to quite like him [dont so much now] but yeah, I dont know really what it will do to him, they might just use a different guy for fight night and the dudes coming into their first couple of shows.
