Bobby Lashley

I'm sure everyone has heard of Lashley, but there's been no discussion about him as an MMA fighter on here; at least none that I can remember.

With his second pro fight coming up this weekend at Roy Jones Jr's hybrid boxing/MMA event, he's in the spotlight again. He was supposed to fight Ken Shamrock, but then Kenny got busted for "numerous anabolic agents," so he is now fighting Jason Guida, who, like Shamrock, has little to offer but his last name. Even so, a guy with so much experience could be dangerous for a guy with 1 fight that lasted less than a minute.

Here's an article by Kevin Iole from Yahoo's MMA section. It's a good read about Lashley's background and potential.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news;_ylt=A ... &type=lgns

Bobby Lashley raced across the cage at the bell, picked up Joshua Franklin and viciously slammed him to the floor.

This all in the first 15 seconds of the one-time World Wrestling Entertainment star's professional mixed martial arts debut on Dec. 13 in Miami.

Lashley, exhibiting an uncommon mixture of speed, quickness, power and strength, went on to win that bout in 41 seconds, showing the kind of potential that makes promoters want to get his name on a contract.

He's powerfully built, comfortable performing in front of a crowd and athletic enough that one could easily forget you're watching a 250-pound man move around the cage.

Here's his MMA debut.

I could see him being picked up by the UFC very soon. Possibly after this coming fight. However, unlike Lesnar, he seems to want to get a lot more experience before jumping in the deep end, and the UFC is not really the best place for that.

I say he's in the UFC in a relatively high profile fight by the end of the year.

Man, I would love to see Lesnar and Lashley go at it. And I'd put my money on Lashley, too.

I'm sure Dana White would love to see that too.

Sheik would humble him.

He will roll through Jason Guida. I think Lashley is legit, but he is not the big novelty name that Lesnar is/was so he will have to prove legit before the UFC comes knocking I think.

Strikeforce should sign him up.

I never buy PPVs, but I'd pay to see that.

Meh.

Lashley doesn't have the charisma Brock does. And Brock isn't even particularly charismatic as far as pro wrestlers go.

is Jason Guida any good? he couldn't even make weight for Ultimate Fighter

If Jason fights anything like his brother I hope he gets busted up BIGTYME! I cant stand fighters like Lay Guida, punks like that need to get their face busted up. I dont ever wish harm on a fighter but L'n'p'ers need a tri[p to the hospital, for that insult to our awsome sport. As a man I would rather get KO'd than win like Lay's victory over Nate. Even in a BJJ tourney I think not going for subs is weak, let alone a MMA fight where people PAY to see. I have more respect for roid heads, grease up'd fighters, etc...than lnp'ers.

No.

The only thing he brings to the table are experience and his last name (which probably isn't even recognizable to the casual fan). I forget if he was trying to make MW or LHW on TUF, but either way, I think he just fights at HW now because he's too lazy to cut. I wish him good luck in trying to outwrestle Lashley though, lol.

The guy is the black Lesner.
It would be a cash cow to have them face off, so the UFC has to be interested.
They'd have 5 million wrestling fans alone by the PPV.

Dana secretly has a soft spot for the heydays of Japanese freakshows. I love him.

I saw Lashley's first MMA fight and he looked like he had slimmed down quite a bit from his WWE days.

Lashley won tonight over Guida, but not without a bit of trouble, the old man put up more of a fight than many thought.

he definetly has the cardio which is always a problem for pure musclebound guys. Dunno about skill

I don't know if it's good or bad that he couldn't finish Jason Guida.

It's probably a bad sign, but good for his experience. I don't know how much better you can get by knocking guys out in 30 seconds. He went the distance, had to defend against some subs, and won a decision. Knowing how to do those things will help him more in the long run than running through another opponent.

I don't think he's for real at all.

His punching sucks. He's got way too much static muscle. Watch him throw a cross - all that lat muscle just sits there and sags, it doesn't get engaged through good torque. And his shoulders and traps are downright a hindrance to punching. Meanwhile, Brock has been absolutely fearsome. No one can stand in front of him.
