UFC Trims Roster

Post#1 » by Shaazzam » Wed May 6, 2009 7:24 pm

Three more cut by UFC following UFC 97 losses

Ryo Chonan, David Bielkheden and David Loiseau have all been dropped by the Ultimate Fighting Championship in its latest round of roster cuts.

They join Jason 'The Athlete' MacDonald in exiting the promotion following their losses at UFC 97 in Montreal last month.

...

The cuts bring the number of fighters dropped after UFC 97 to five, with Vinicius Magalhaes getting his marching orders last week.

I dunno, I always liked watching Jason MacDonald fight.

At least Ryo Chonan still has that massive ownage of A. Silva under his belt.

I'm sure MacDonald will be back. Sounds like he wants to get a couple fights locally with MFC, and if he puts together 2 or 3 wins, I think the UFC would come knocking again.

I might actually prefer it if he ended up in Strikeforce though. There are a bunch of guys closer to his level, and he could be more of a contender there. Fights against Smith, Radach, Villasenor, and maybe even Lawler would be great to watch. If Diaz hangs around at 180ish, MacDonald vs. Diaz would be something I'd love to see.

It's probably safe to drop Jason because he'll end up in a Canadian org as a headliner - that's where his best payday is, not directly competing with the UFC. I totally agree that signing with Strikeforce would be awesome. The UFC has to be worried about feeding Strikeforce's MW division.

Bielkheden and Vinny may not be at UFC level currently, but they've both got ridiculous talent. I'm really surprised they dropped Vinny. They must know something about his training or progress that we don't.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

Yeah, I was kind of surprised to see Vinny getting cut, but he needs a lot of work, and the UFC isn't the place to be for that.

Chonan will end up back in Japan I imagine.

Agreed. Vinny is outclassed and will not improve in the UFC. Tom Speer all over again.
