Michael Bisping vs. Wanderlei Silva in the works for UFC 105

Post#1 » by Headliner » Thu Jul 23, 2009 5:33 pm

MMAjunkie.com (http://www.mmajunkie.com) has learned from sources close to the event that Silva is currently in negotiations to face Michael Bisping (17-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) in the main event of the Spike TV-broadcast event. While bout agreements have not yet been distributed, company officials are hoping to officially announce the contest as soon as next week.

UFC 105 takes place at Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, England. The card airs in the U.S. on same-day tape delay.

The bout will be Silva's first in the middleweight division after spending the majority of his legendary career competing at over 200 pounds. "The Axe Murderer" made the first step toward the 185-pond limit in June, dropping a unanimous decision to Rich Franklin in a catchweight bout at 195 pounds.

While Silva remains a worldwide fan-favorite, the 33-year-old has earned just one victory in his past six contests.

Bisping will be looking to rebound from a devastating knockout loss to Dan Henderson at UFC 100 earlier this month. The defeat, was just the second in Bisping's MMA, career, and it ended a three-fight win streak for "The Ultimate Fighter 3" winner.

As first reported by MMAjunkie.com, Dan Hardy, James Wilks and Ross Pearson are also expected to compete on the UFC 105 card.

Yeah saw this a little while ago today.

Its an interesting fight, I am not sure what to think of it right now. I felt that Bisping being KO'd at 100 by Hendo showed he wasn't in the same class as the top tier fighters in the division. I think this could be a case of a chance for Bisping to prove that he is deserving of being in the top flight, like he says he is, and for Silva it could be a nice entry way into 185 proper.

But I've got a feeling that this is the "down card", like the Europe one's, giving a couple of months for the title guys to take a break and get back into the gym.

Back-to-back KO's for Bisping.

Bisping by all costs has to avoid this otherwise he'll just be relegated to gate keeper for a good while.

That said, I didn't thing Silva looked bad against Franklin, and pretty sure he'll take Bisping out, I can't even see MB winning a decision.

The loser of this fight takes a HUGE tumble down the 205 ladder.

I thought Bisping was 185, is he going back up to 205?

This will be at 185lbs. Bisping will need to avoid all of the mistakes he made against Hendo. Outside a lucky KO, I can't see Bisping winning this.

I actually think Bisping will win this. He will have the superior wrestling and be able to take Wanderlei down. He could not do that because of Hendo's elite wrestling. I think Bisping grinds out a decision here. IMO it is Wand that will need the KO to win here.

Its going to be a good fight....i mean I see Wanderlei taking it. But its in England and if it goes to the cards....well lets just go back to the Matt Hamill fiasco (where Hamill clearly won but was rewarded the loss).

The conflicting reports surrounding Michael "The Count" Bisping and Wanderlei "The Axe Murder" Silva have taken an interesting turn. The two fighters are tentatively scheduled to face one another at UFC 105, but sources close to Silva's camp have informed Sportsnet that "The Axe Murderer" is not being considered for the bout.

Cheick Kongo, one of Bisping's Wolfslair teammates, is also angling to have a fight at the end of this year.

A source close to Kongo informed Sportsnet that the French striker is tentatively scheduled to face Frank Mir at UFC 107 in Memphis, TN.

If it goes to the card, Wandy prolly loses regardless of where it is at. Bisping is the more technical fighter.

See I thought that with the Franklin fight aswell, either a Silva KO or a Franklin decision win. I know ultimately it was a Franklin decision, but I felt it was close, or closer than I thought Silva would have got to a decision.

Or does that make no sense?

Bisping will be going to sleep again. Then everyone will start to realize how overrated he is.

Bisping will get his chin rocked again. This one ain't going to the judges.

Both fighters need a win but I think Wanderlei is more hungry.

TKO Win for Wanderlei.

Wand is done, but Bisping frankly isnt that good.

I really dont know who wins this fight to be honest. Its a pick em fight, really depends on where the fight takes place.
