MAIN CARD

* Champ Miguel Torres vs. Brian Bowles (for WEC bantamweight title)
Looking forward to this fight, even though I don't quite buy Bowles as a real threat to Torres. He's definitely a top level BW though, so it will be fun to watch the War Mullet in action against some top level competition.

* Joseph Benavidez vs. Dominick Cruz
Good fight between two up and comers. I expect Benavidez to take this though. I've been much more impressed by him than with anything I've seen out of Cruz.

* Danny Castillo vs. Ricardo Lamas
Don't really understand why this is on the main card, to be honest. Not that I think it will be a bad fight, but with fights like Garcia vs. Massouh and Davis vs. Vasquez on the undercard, among others, it doesn't make sense to me. Can anyone shed some light, or is this more of the WEC's seemingly random scheduling? I'll take Lamas, for what it's worth.

* Jeff Curran vs. Takeya Mizugaki
Looking forward to this fight. Curran is very solid and experienced, and Mizugaki looked very good taking on Torres. Should be interesting. Tough to call, but I'm leaning towards Curran.

PRELIMINARY CARD

* Leonard Garcia vs. Jameel Massouh Garcia
* Fredson Paixao vs. Cole Province Paixao
* Marcus Hicks vs. Shane Roller Roller
* Phil Cardella vs. Ed Ratcliff Ratcliff
* John Hosman vs. Rani Yayha Yahya
* Rafael Dias vs. Diego Nunes Dias
* LC Davis vs. Javier Vasquez Vasquez

Really hoping to see some of those undercard fights.

Good card IMO !

- IMO Curran got robbed, good fight though.

- Garcia should have finished Massouh after that shot that dropped Massouh in rd 1

- Benavidez/ Cruz fight was good. Cruz was slightly better.

- Bowles/ Torres :o WOW ! Brutal end to Torres run, he took 3 or 4 shots after he was out.

Man, this is what I get for going through life without a second glance at the "other sports" link.

Thoughts on the card:
- WEC cards are inevitably better than UFC cards, and not simply because they're free. UFC 101 was actually a very strong showing by the UFC but I have no complaints about 42 either, at least from an entertainment standpoint. I would have given both Curran and Massouh the nod by decision but both fights were very close so I'm not disgusted by either decision.

- Man Torres was out, stylistically Bowles looks a lot like a Mike Brown for the 135 division. If Torres came back with a better gameplan a rematch would be very competative but I think the same of Brown and Faber.

-I'm not eagerly awaiting further opportunities to spend an evening with Frank Mir but he did get me with the "grappling bigger guys" line during the Curran/Mizugaki fight.

Well I expected an "upset" this weekend, I thought it would come during the UFC card, but fair play to Bowles, that certainly does shake things up a bit now at 135.

Pretty shocking result.

Torres is a good fighter but perhaps a tad overrated. Always had some holes in his striking and he showed it tonight. Im surprised nobody was able to exploit that until tonight.

Im not going to lie, at the beginning I thought for sure, Bowles would get stopped at some point. Bowles really didnt look comfortable on the feet, he ate some shots, covered decently, recovered well and even got backed up against the cage with Torres looking very sloppy throwing repeated 1-2's. The pace they were fighting at, I knew somebody was going down, it just happened to be Torres.

Credit to Bowles. Im happy for him, he earned it. Torres will learn from this and I actually think Torres wins the rematch if he fights smarter. Im just not completely sold on Bowles.

Yeah they've trained together. Still shocked, but maybe its a wake up call to Torres. Samething when GSP lost to Serra, GSP was already a good fighter and after the lost came back amazing. Not saying Bowles is Serra, but this could honestly be Torres' wake up call.

Good show, as usual.

Liked the Garcia vs. Massouh fight. It's always fun to see both guys recover from nearly getting finished, and with each guy clearly taking a round, it usually makes for a good 3rd round, but this was kind of a letdown in that respect. Still a good fight though.

Curran vs. Mizugaki was pretty good too. I kind of thought Curran won, but it was close enough that I won't say he got robbed or anything. Will be very interesting to see what is next for both guys now, especially with the upsets at the top of the card in that division.

Castillo vs. Lamas was ok, but I'm still not sure why it was on the main card.

Cruz vs. Benavidez was a really good fight. I expected Benavidez to take it, but I was very impressed by Cruz. Was this fight officially for a title shot, or just puts the winner in a good position?

Can't believe Torres went down like that. Those shots on the ground were vicious, and he ate a good 3 or 4 after getting KTFO. Congrats to Bowles. Certainly shakes things up. I'd like to see him fight Mizugaki, but Cruz may be ahead of him in line now. Either one would be good fights, but Torres probably gets a rematch after one win.

I think we will see Bowles fight Cruz and Torres fight Mizugaki again, with the winner getting a title shot. Curran has not won in quite a while, he needs a gimme.

I don't see how you guys thought he won that fight. He was taken down at will, and while he did nice from the bottom, it did not counter the fact that he was out struck on his feet and taken down over and over. I actually though Jameel Massouh won his fight though.

I thought Massouh got hosed.

He peppered Garcia with his jab the whole third round. Garcia kept trying to load up and consistently got beat to the punch.

He really didn't do anything in that third round. If he was a little more aggressive they may have given it to him. The deciding round isn't the round to be tentative.

It really was a close fight and Massouh certainly didn't do any damage to Garcia outside of the D'arce but Garcia's aggression in the third didn't really achieve anything. I realize activity and aggression are scoring criteria but he was just winging punches that didn't connect and didn't ever really threaten Massouh. Massouh was backing up the entire round but at least his shots landed, so I would have given him the second and third. Frankly, while he was rocked early in the first he got the better of Garcia through the rest of that round as well, so I'm pretty comfortable giving the decision to Massouh.

Tough loss for Torres. This was his first lost since 2003. Considering how devastating the KO was, i hope he can get it together and come back stronger then before.

Agreed. All Garcia's aggression did was get him punched in the face.
