So Forrest Griffin's jaw isn't broken after all...It didn't say anything about his ear being damaged either...interesting.

KenFlo out 45 days with cheekbone damage.

Griffin is apparently in good shape physically after the fight, no broken jaw, but is having emotional difficulty dealing with the loss.

"He's an emotional guy," UFC President Dana White said at the post-fight press conference. "He came into this fight confident that he was going to beat Anderson Silva."

I wouldn't blame him. I couldn't believe what I saw either. Like I said, shame on me for even thinking for a second there that the fight was staged. That's how good Silva was.

Yeah I dont understand why people would think the fight was fixed.

It wasnt fixed, Forrest just happened to be the perfect opponent for Silva. The UFC knew that and thats why they set up the fight.

I don't think the UFC knew that. I think the UFC thought they were setting up a war, they would never throw one of their biggest stars (Forrest) into a fight just to get embarrassed.

Well, Silva came off 2 questionable performances. And Dana markets this guy as the P4P best in the sport. He wanted Forrest because Forrest would for the most part MAKE Silva fight.

The problem is thats exactly what Silva wants. Hes a counter puncher. Griffin was tailor-made for Silva.

I think Dana understands Forrests limitations. Dana realizes that Griffin will never hold a belt in the UFC again. Hes a solid fighter but not a great one. So although, hes a fairly recognizable name hes not going to be a title holder. Thats what Dana wants, because he knows putting Griffin in there with Silva will generate interest and at the same time MAKE Silva look amazing.

You dont think Dana knew Griffin would get steamrolled. Trust me, these guys know. Joe Silva, Dana White know what they are doing.

I'll admit they didnt think it would be anywhere near this bad though. This fight I think did alot more bad than good. Hell, I didnt think it would be this bad. I thought Griffin would give him a decent fight with Silva finishing him off in the 2nd-3rd round.

I completely disagree with this. To think Forrest will never hold a belt again is naive. He beat Rampage and Shogun and was handling Rashad until he got caught, I seriously doubt Dana sees Forrest as some sort of glorified gatekeeper.

If all they wanted was a push forward guy to get KOed, they could have found plenty of guys for that, Wanderlei Silva anyone? Dana and the UFC wanted a guy who could push Silva and beat him. They thought that guy might be Forrest. He was no sacrificial lamb, he makes them far too much money for that.

When Forrest won the belt there were no great fighters on the scene. Rampage, Rua, Evans are all very good fighters, and as shown are guys that can and will pass the belt around. But Silva and Machida are great fighters, these cats are geniuses. He's not getting a sniff until these guys are done their run, and by the time they are, his bell might have been rung enough times that he won't be a legit championship contender.

The UFC definitely didn't put Forrest in there to be humiliated. He's a fan favorite. They wanted to bring out the best in Silva and put on an entertaining fight. Unfortunately they overestimated Griffin's participation in the fight.

As I said in the UFC 101 thread, it was bittersweet being a big fan of both. I'm hoping Forrest can bounce back, but I agree that he won't hold the title again. I don't think he'd be able to beat Rampage or Shogun in a rematch. I definitely don't think he'd beat Machida.

This.

I was not saying he would hold a title again, I am saying the idea that the UFC knew he never would again was way over the top.
