Carwin/Velasquez scrapped, Carwin title shot at 106 instead

Post#1 » by The Flying Gent » Thu Aug 20, 2009 1:08 pm

Mentioned it in the 106 thread, but it seems official now.

Good move imo. Saves one of these guys a loss (potentially) and being set back. The more contenders for Lesnar the better.

Cain is still fighting at UFC 104 apparently, wonder who they'll toss at him.

I was looking forward to the Carwin/Velasquez fight, but this will be better.

Besides, it makes sense to get Carwin in this fight now. He's not a young guy, and if he lost to Velasquez, he might never get back to this point.

Velasquez has plenty of time to get his shot.

Having Brock and Tito on the same show should be a big PPV buyrate as well. I'm kind of expecting the rest of the card to be crappy because those two can carry it to a million buys easy.

Ben Rothwell Vs Cain Velasquez.

Easy win for Velasquez.

Brock/Carwin is going to be interesting. Carwin has slimmed down quite a bit though. I think Brock will handle him pretty well on the ground.

Nevermind, I guess Rothwell is a done deal. Gormley can not catch a break. Should be a good fight.

I think the UFC had to have this fight now. It would be too long of a wait time for Brock's next title fight.

Carwin has like a 1/100 chance of winning imo.

I think Lesnar steamrolls him.

Brock has never fought anyone with anything close to Carwin's power and he got rocked in the short time he was standing with Mir. I could definitely see Carwin connecting one good time and swarming in for the finish.

But as of right now I'm still leaning Brock's way. I definitely don't think there's a chance Carwin wins a decision. He wins by TKO or loses.

I completely agree with that assessment. While a decision victory seems rather far-fetched, Carwin throws some mean lunchboxes too. If that fight can stay on the feet, I think he has a decent shot at landing a good one.

You could say the same thing for Carwin. Carwin did get rocked pretty good against Gonzaga.
